Hard starting

after the first 600 mile service when I got my 08 busa it would start and die about 3-4 times before it would keep running. would only do it in the morning after that it would be fine all day long. brought it back to the dealer and they said it was the mapping ( only mod it has is yosh slip ons ). now it will start and chug below 1000 rpm for a few seconds and then slowly catch its breath and after about 30 sec it will go to hi idle then drop to normal idle.
It only does it when its cold in the morning and after that its fine.

do the other busa's do this . my 2000 never did but that was a totally different operating system.

Oh ya fuel pressure is 42 PSI on key cycle and holds pressure. It holds at 42 while running. no lack of power can run for long periods of time about 160 MPH. ( got to love montana )

when I first go the bike before the service it would fire right off and go to about 1500 for a few and drop to a smooth 1100 ish idle.

any info would be great.

Sounds to me like they played with your throttle bodie('s) adjustments......ie: they tried to re-sync them and got something out of wack

If i where you i would take it back and tell them they screwed your bike up!! DONT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER, as it was not like this untill they worked on it, ask for a LIST of everything they touched or serviced(this is your RIGHT), i would even talk to the mech himself, and then back track from there. hope everything works out for you, keep us posted on what the turn out is

and that is why i won't let stealer mess with my bike.
do the oil change, adjust the chain, tighten the screws, check fluids and go riding and do it yourself.

Yes, mine did *exactly* as you describe above.

I said "did", because it only displayed these symptoms when the ambient temps were below 50-55-ish degrees Fereinheit.

Still, my symptoms were very similar to yours: the bike would start just fine, but for the first 10-20 seconds, it acted as if the fast-idle circuit wasn't behaving as advertised.... the idle would be crappy and low, around 900 RPM or so. But then the fast-idle would seem to "kick in" a little, and the idle would go up to around 1300-1350 RPM for a few minutes before dropping back down to its normal 1100 RPM.

I attribute this behavior to something that is likely an ECU mapping issue of some sort, but it doesn't appear to be much of a problem that merits tearing into the bike to diagnose. Besides, with the current temps here in the High Desert during mid-summer, this cold start issue hasn't happened since April. When I first start my (completely cold) K8 in the morning nowadays, it starts *immediately*, and settles at 1250-ish RPM for a good couple minutes.

I highly doubt they touched anything in the EFI system when they did your 600-mile service. Only the California-spec bikes called for a throttle body sync "inspection" at the 600-mile Service. Doing the TBS (Throttle Body Synch) job on the K8 is a rather complex and time-consuming operation, requiring special tools, software, etc. Most dealerships never bother unless there is an obvious reason to indicate a TBS is needed.

I had the dealer do the first service and they charged me for "sync" the throttle body's. , they didn't charge me for the 2nd "sync" and they said they remapped it for the yosh slip ons. ( calling BS on that one). I normally have the dealer do the first service and then I do it the rest.

Got over 77K.. yes that 77000 miles on my 2000 that I traded in on this one. hope to get the same miles on this one.

I removed the kick stand safety because I can only ride GP shift style. I don't think that has anything to do with it. I live up north of seattle washington and ride year around so this isn't a problem now but will be when its in the 30-40 in the mornings.

When I figure out what's wrong with the hi idle system I'll post it.

Mine has the same problem only mod is a full R77 kit without a PC. Mine stumbles but has never shut off before.
