HBO - The Pacific - Anyone gonna watch?

Being a retired LA cop and a person who both worked many movie sets and did many bodyguard jobs for "movie stars", I find it laughable when, because someone disagrees with your values, you say he has "Hollywood disease".
Make the argument that, because of a persons wealth, they don't understand what poverty or middleclass life is like....and I'll buy that. But to examine Tom Hanks life works (including what he has said and written) and not understand his compassion for humanity AND incredible devotion and respect for the United States military, is simply absurd.

There is a lot more depth and substance coming from "the Hollywood types" than some are willing to admit. Raydog

Boy apologies to Zukracer for making a comment and it becoming the topic.

Our own propaganda posters at the time...had things like...dont let the Jap zap you and all kinds of stuff. The Germans used it , we used it they used it.
At the time we all believed ourselves superior racewise to the other.
The Japs invaded China and simply exterminated folks cuz they were chinese.
The Germans had same attitudes.
Our troops were led to believe same because as mentioned up until the time of the war there was only one race we in America really had racial issues with and that was the blacks.
Not that I am or support it but our govt needed to find a way to make our troops and military hate races they had otherwise interacted with up until the time.
Japanese American and German American citizens were intertwined until the war then later looked upon as bad.

We were all a little more racist back then..

There is racial propaganda used in times of war...all war. You always paint the
enemy as this evil...thing. And tell your soldiers you will win because your superior.
But WWII was not racial. If it was racially motivated would we have the chinesse as allies?
Would we have spent money to rebuild Japan?

Just because you hate or make fun of the person shooting at you (when
they are not shooting at you that is) doesn't make the purpose for war ethnic
cleansing.

For those of us that don't have HBO, they are also showing it on either 79 or 101. I just watched the 1st one and am looking forward to the next.

Now children, this is a series made for tv. It has an agenda, Making Money! I can assure you if Tom Hanks is involved, it has a left wing spin. This is entertainment, no different than the Micheal Moore movies.

Japan had an agenda when they attacked us at Pearl Harbor. It had nothing to do with the color of our skin.

Don't let things like this contaminate your brain!
