Heat issues...

Seems this thread got a little off topic...

To get back to your original question select20 - yes, I feel the heat on my shins too, much more than I did on my old VFR, especially on my right leg.
Mine definately throws off more heat to my right leg as well. Traded bikes one day with friend who rides a 14 and he noticed the heat on the right side also.

Last May I was wearing full leathers in Phoenix when the temp hit 104f. It does get hot when you stop. Good ventilated leathers are plenty comfortable while moving. Although people looked at me like I was from another planet.

Go down to one of your local stereo shops and ask someone about a product called dynomat there are several different types but there is one that is used for firewalls and roof linings it is supposed to retard heat drastically and it is also one side adhesive for applying it supposed to be a very good product and once stuck is supposed to stay in place very well.

That's exactly what I had in mind, thanks for the tip man!

I am guilty of riding in jeans too. In the summer I ride in textile pants, and in the winter I wear heavy overpants that have armor. I will have to upgrade to more protective gear for every ride..

I think that I am the "southern most" rider in the states on a new 08, we are still in the high 80's down here in the keys. The 08 Busa does not heat up with the twin fans even close to any of my previous rides. My vintagew 88 Hurricane 1000R is bloody hot, especially at low speeds, traffic etc.
In regards to protective gear, Joe Rockets Ballistic mesh jackets rule, they cover the touchdown points very well yet allow great ventilation. As for pants, I do ride in BDU's, military issue, for daily to work rides as that is what I wear at work, however, when I am going to road trip, top and bottom perforated leathers, unless a cold front is coming through and it gets down to 60, then the full leaters go on.
I have gone down at the least expected time, riding mellow home from work, it is not your riding that is the issue, it is the "other" involved that creates a scenario, i.e a bicyclist, a dog, a drunk.....
When I am riding hard, so far, the better.
Protective gear will save your skin, much like a full face helmet will save your jawbone, face, teeth etc.

Here in Phoenix it get plenty hot in the summer. It's always 100+ and the other three Busas I've owned have been hot on the right side. Until recently I never owned the textile pants with armor implants simply because of the heat here. I simply wore the jacket with implants, which by the way, do not add to heat by virtue of the flow through material when you are moving. My wife insisted on buying me the pants and I tried them out and guess what, not only do they not add to the heat when you are moving, but they deflect that engine heat on the right side. I wear them all the time now. Hope that helps you out.

I know this is an older thread, but just wanted to add my input about the heat situation. Rode around for most of the day today, was around the high 90's (Freakin hot!!). The right side, near where my calf sits in riding position, I felt a bunch of heat coming from that area. It was annoying, I guess this is normal, but boy was it hot. I never felt anything like that from my gixxer 600. I assume it is because the size of the engine. Anyhow, I guess this is normal.

i have a whole box of thremotec heat barrier bought an extra box when i installed my full exhaust system it Will radiate heat away it is rated to be able to winthstand up 2000 Degrees farinhet radiant heat or 300 degrees direct heat and it has an adhesive back  that will stick to fairings hoses Etc.

35.00 shipped to your door pm me if intrested.

So just to clarify, wrapping the headers with that sort of material should help with the heat issue? Does this do any sort of harm to the bike by wrapping the headers?

Interesting thread.... I just did 1300 miles this past weekend in temps up to 101 on the floor of the Columbian Basin.

Didn't feel any unusual heat to speak of.... this bike is significantly cooler than my XX or FJR.

That having been said.... wearing 1000-denier Motoport Kevlar pants likely helps in keeping any heat problems at bay.

I have noticed a definite heat increase on the right side of my K8. Similar issue i had with my 01 but my new bike seems considerably hotter. With jeans alone riding close to the tank with knee inward, my right lower leg seemed to get what looked like a sunburn. Temps around 80-85 here. Hoping to try the exhaust wrap and have wondered if anyone else has had good luck with that mod?

I was surprised at the amount of heat I felt on the back of my thighs, even on cooler days. I just put it down to the cats in the stock exhausts as they burn so hot.

If you're not going to wear decent gear you can always get the exhaust Ceramic coated. It cost me about $150 for the headers down to the mid-pipes, inside and out. Easier to clean than exhaust wraps. The headers are cool enough to touch a few minutes after shutting off the engine.

i dont use header wrap never had the need. I just used the barrier to protect the farings.

Just starting with the 08 I have noticed the heat as well on the right side. Driving a blackbird previously, this was noticed right away. Is Thremotec a brand name? I would like to try the wrap as well. I take it you could probably pick this up at the local auto store if not where is the best place to pick it up?

Rykstr- How long did that take you?
