heavy but fast

Not exactly a BRAND new owner of a Hayabusa (bought mine at the end of '03). Coming from an R6, and been more and more disappointed with the weight as time rolls on. Rode the Bus in '03, took a year off and rode the R6 all year in '04. Had to sell one of the bikes (new kids are hell on the pocketbook), and chose to sell the R6 this spring (lucked out though, sold it to my dad).

60% of my riding consists of commuting, and the Busa is perfect for it. Commuting is 75% highway, and the Busa is comfy, plenty of power and torque, and seems to command respect from other motorists (why I don't know). Pleasure riding for me is twisties, and my gawd do I have to muscle that thing through the corners! Hanging off is a necessity. Moving it around the garage is a pain since it is soo heavy. I went over to Dad's yesterday, had to move the R6, and almost tossed the thing on the opposite side. Damn that thing is light! Rode my friends gix 750 through the twisties, and it was effortless, I was grinning ear to ear. Maybe I'm going to have to save up a little more coin and buy another dedicated sportbike. I am really digging the R1.

Don't mean to knock the Busa, I love it for what it was built for, just goes to show, I need a stable!

As much as I complain about the weight of the Busa, I would be sobbing if I owned a cruiser!

If you think the 'Busa's heavy, try a Goldwing or a Hardley some time.

By all means get a lighter bike if "flickability" is what you want - but you'll miss the sheer torque/power of the 'Busa I think.

Besides, if weight's an issue, ride a bicycle!

I test rode a Mille R, and rode my friends GSXR750. Much more flickable, but you are correct, I have been corrupted by the power and torque of the Busa!

Hitting the gym is an option. (one I should "exercise" anyway)

I do hit the gym, 2 or 3 times a week. I've been targetting the muscles I think'll help with riding a sportbike. Obliques, thighs, shoulders and back routines have changed or been added. With the last bike ride, it seemed to make a lot of difference in ride comfort and the ability to ride longer.

Welcome. My last bike was a cruiser. The Busa is light and nimble in my opinion.

I rode a friends CBR600F4i a few weeks ago. Yea, its a light nimble wheelie machine, but no power on the bottom end. I love the torque of the Busa. Warp speed ahead.

The busa is a lil heavy... but i never felt that to be a big hinderence to enjoy the bike

I suggest you do the following mods to your busa to loose some weight --

a) Full Titanium Exhaust (Single Can)
b) Alluminium Wheels

Thats what I have done to my Elenor, and the weight loss is quite noticable!!

I could definately see the alum. wheels making a difference (spinning mass/weight), I have a pair of bolt-on yoshis (looks and sound), the bike has plenty of power (actually I've gotten spolied already ... rode my friends 750, when I hit the gas I was like

)

I've gotten more confident with the bike the more I've ridden it, but I think it will be hard to get the same confidence level (which translates to ability) in the twisties as I did with the R^. I guess I just have to have 2 bikes. That settles it! (hehehe)

I can justify it as a business expense since I am an MSF instuctor (hehehe). I 'd like to get another bike that pulls double duty street/track. Not sure if I want a 600 or a 1k.

I'm sure I'll get torched on this board for saying it, but I don't really like most Suzukis (the Busa an exception), I've always been partial to yamahas. I've owned all four major japanese man. bikes.

Hi All,

Personally, since just recently purchasing my '05 Busa ( Gray & Black) I find it to be quite nimble in itself. My previous bike was a HD 1998 Fatboy that I purchased new from dealer. I always that that bike was light and nimble and I was able to pull up the front on it. I have never really ridden any lite bikes like the R6 or others. Only once did I ride a Ducati and it felt like riding a lawn mower with a worked engine. So I find the Busa to be light and I am learning to find the sweet spot on the twisties because of so much torque coming out of the turns. I don't want to goose the throttle at the wrong instance and get thrown or slide out on road debris. In summary, I guess not riding any bike less than 600 pounds has given me a handling advantage.

Ride Safe.

i rode a friends f4 and a zx9 and couldn't believe the difference.they lay over much easier, but the f4 was extremely lacking power.i work out also and now only get a numb hand since i don't wear gloves.

the only time my Busa feels heavy is when i try and push it into my duplex, my 1000 definetly pushes easier in the house (i have 2 steps up) i had an 03 sporster that seemed a lot heavier than the Busa. and i have to agree the Busa gets more respect on the road at least compared to my GSX.

When I sold my Kawasaki ZX-9R and bought a Mean Streak; I almost cried. So I started looking for another sport bike. The new ZX-10R and R-1 were too focused and would't do the long trips I wanted to do. The first time I sat on the Busa it was love at sight. this is the first bike I have ever owned that fits me the way I like to ride. What a great bike!

wow i cant believe your complaining about the weight of a busa that weighs less than 500lbs i have a 2000 heritage softtail that weighs over 800lbs i dont mean to offend you but you must be a wuss i can fling a busa around effortlessly
hell i didnt even know a bike could be so easy to move on road or in garage but as i said before please dont be offended
but you need a workout

I have to raise the garage door and push mine in. Funny you mentioned it.

It does seem heavy then, and when backing it out down the drive. Otherwise, it seems nimble enough to me. I had a Sportster once that weighed almost the same (ironhead) and it pushed the same way. The difference in power and handling between the two is like night and day.

I've sat on some 1Ks, and they seem too cramped for me. I'll take the extra weight and be able to stretch out and sit on a comfortable seat.

I guess I have taken my size for granted and only recently realized that stuff is alot more difficult for small people. I'm 6'4" 240-250 most of the time and the bike feels great to me, it feels normal. I also have a '01 GSX-R1K and recently threw a leg over it, there is a huge difference when tossing it side to side while straddling it when compared to the Busa. That extra mass the busa has makes all the difference in high speed riding. The other day on a nice high speed stretch of winding motorway my buddy said that the wind gusts at 150mph tossed him around so he backed off. Man I didn't even feel any wind gusts. I outweigh him by around 70-80lbs and the bike adds 100 more to that.

It's big...it's too heavy...it's fat...it's so outdated blah blah blah. It's built for straight line speed not the twist and turn race track.

Why does it get so much respect...geez I wonder.
Maybe it's because it's been the same for 6 years and all the rest of the bikes are just catching up on HP but not even close to the torque. In my book that's quite a feat.
