Two Questions:

1. Does anyone on this forum think it is safer to ride a motorcycle without a helmet than with one?

2. Does anyone on this forum know of a motorcycle racer (drag, motocross, road), or race sanctioning organization, that thinks its safer to race without a helmet than with one?

Have you ever crashed hard enough to break a helmet off your head? I have. good time neck pain,
im still alive. There is no argument for riding wthout a helmet other than the freedom to be an idiot. I ride with no helmet when i want to listen to a bike, thats it.

My son's school called me yesterday morning at work to tell me he was hurt playing schoolyard football before school started. Seems he was jumping to catch a pass and fell on his back and his head hit the concrete. He had a massive bump on his head and headaches the rest of the day. They had to "observe" him for a while to check for a concussion since he was a bit dingy. He's 11 years old and while tall for his age not big enough to jump real high in the air. Imagine hitting the concrete about 100 times as hard and fast and ask yourself if you would enjoy NOT having a helmet on?

I've started wearing a helmet too even when in town even though it's not required here in Kansas. Besides the safty in a crash topic, you don't notice the windshield rattle/vibration with your helmet on.

If I had a louisville Slugger bat, the big one, and was going to swing at your head as hard as I could, but offered you the option to put your helmet on first. Would you?

To all thanks for the responce good or bad at least you guys care about the safety of your fellow board members and riders. As for wearing the smaller helmet on speeds exceeding 90mph and since I'm the test rat on this subject,do wear either ear plus or a face mask,"rubber type like the one's used for skiing" and make sure it covers your ears.I've been up to 160mph this way with no wind blast noise. Now when I attempt the 200 mph mark I will wear a full face helmet and two changes of clothes in case I have to out run a CHP and ditch for awhile.Ride Safe

Hey, I'm as much for free speech, freedom to chose, free love (?), all that stuff. You want to wear a helmet from WW2, fine. My motto is you can agree with me, or you can be wrong.

Thanks Cisco

You spent time over here? I'll be with the wife and kids visiting Grandma, I'd dig getting away for that for a little bit. Let me find out my dates and I'll get back to you. Bike shops top my list, local food is easy to come by when you live here, but I'll go grind any thing.

Reminds me of an old cop joke.
Officer: "You ran the stop sign."
Motorist: "But officer, I did slow down."
Officer: (Whips out night stick and begins to whack motorist over the head.) "Do you want me to slow down, or stop?"
Think I'll leave the helmet on for that one!

P.S. FC, RC, et al, don't try this at home!

I know of one instance where it's for sure safer to ride with no helmet.

If you belong to an outlaw bike gang in a no-helmet-law-jurisdiction, it is demonstrably safer to ride withOUT a helmet than to ride with one.

That's because if an outlaw biker is caught doing anything different from his fellow lemmings, anything at all, he'll have the crap whacked out of him.

Thanks, JB, remember to always come to a full stop!
DP, sounds like those 2%ers have more to worry about than a lil' ole motorcycle accident, eh?

A couple of years ago, a bill was introduced in the GA legislature to rescind the helmet law. However, it would have also required new riders to take the MSF course. It didn't pass. I supported the measure, because I believe more lives would be saved with better training. I'll wear my helmet, required or not. I had two accidents early on in my 25+ years of riding. Glad I'm still here to ta ta ta talk about it.

Do you know why they call outlaw bikers "1 percenters"??

Because years ago scientists demonstrated that NORMAL people use only 10 percent of their brain!! :)

ahhhahha STOP! That was hilarious.

my moto "No sympathy for the stupid".

Hmmm neck pain... or death... I dont know ...
YOU PICK!

WHAT?... try reading WERA & CMRA rules& regulations. or any other club rules for that matter and you wont have to ask this one.

I've read most of the posting from most of the people on this board about helmet and it seems to me that most of you guys hate people that don't comform to your riding standards cause the style of helmets they wear or the type of riding gear they wear. When I went up to the state capitol in Califorina to over turn some of the bad laws against motorcyclist which included banning motorcycles from gated communities and use of open land for off road riding and use of motorcycle licence fee money to fund motorcycle safety schools, smog inspection for motorcycle I seen mostly MRO groups there, which included ABATE of California,MMA"Modified Motorcycle Assoc" and a few other groups and when it was time to protest at the capitol only the Beanies Harley riders showed up.Helmets is not the issue here,it's the law that's the issue.Anyways I will continue my fight for justice for motorcylist in California and you guys can post feel good messages between yourselves. The issue is to band together as a group instead of bickering over one issue.Yes you better wear a helmet when racing,it is required for insurance purpose for the race track promoters.Bottom line money TALKS.Ride safe.
