Helmet Phone

(JuiceSC @ Jun. 21 2007,09:28) You can't do much with $$$$ if your DEAD. I'm sorry, but talking on the phone while operating a motor vehicle really foooking pisses me off. And I HATE doing it and avoid it as much as possible. Yes, I pull over to talk. I've missed turns/exits because I answered the phone. My job requires me to drive roughly 25K miles a year and I'm a slave to a pager&cell. Studies have shown that being on the phone while operating a motor vehicle is more dangerous than drinking& driving. Hands free isn't any better either because its the conversation itself thats the problem, not holding the phone. Let them leave a vm, pull over and call them back. We are talking a few minutes at most here. Just think of all the cagers out there on phones while we are out there riding our bikes...........
You can do anything you want.  I will continue to do the same.  If I want to talk on my phone and slug down a wawa coffee while reading the paper and texting my friend while searching for a wireless signal for my laptop and trying to finish my novel "How to piss off the most people in the shortest time" I will continue to do so.  Good day Sir!

Total disregard for saftey and your family, carry on......

Dianese (-5 spelling) has a new helmet out ($600) that has bluetooth integrated into the helmet when you buy it. It will also do helmet to helmet comms (no phone) good for about 1/3 of a mile.

To each his own. Don't bash each other on difference of opinion or choice. There has to be alot of people who use the phone while talking otherwise companies wouldn't make these things. I am all for answering the call as I pull over to talk, this way when I stop I can talk without ripping off gloves, helmet to give the Aok to somebody who has a question about something. Having a conversation about going to the beach on Friday morning and what to pack for lunch and who's picking up who etc.. I personally wouldn't do but to each his own my friends!

Man, have not seen bashing like this in a thread for a while. I hate seeing cagers on the phone when I am on the Busa. I instantly know they are a threat, however I talk on my phone and drive so it is hard to bash someone for it if I do it. I am on my phone 80 percent of my work day and I am putting atleast 200 miles a day average on my vehicles. If I don't talk on my phone I don't make money. If it is a long conversation, I attempt to pull over and I try to avoid making calls unless I am parked. I have a Scala in the helmet and mostly use it for the radio feature, but if it is an important call I tell the caller to wait a second, I find a safe place to pull the bike off the road to continue conversation. If any one group knows the dangers of talking on the phone and riding, I think it is us bikers. I agree with the above statements that most cagers that almost kill us on a daily basis are people on cells. Hope everyone stays safe out there and hope we are mature enough to keep the bashing down to a minimum.

(BusaCruise @ Jun. 18 2007,06:57) pull over,  get off the bike, remove helmet..then talk.

as if there aren't enuf things you should already be paying attention too?
Totally agree. Remember the last time you saw a young teenage Girl driving talking on the phone and she was coming in your lain as she was flipping her hair. Take a break get off the bike. Keep the phone on vibrate you will know when you get a call.

I'm not saying, giggle like a schoolgirls talking about pantyhose. I would just like the convenience of answering the phone and saying, "Yup....uh huh....ok....sounds good...bye". Besides the proceedure would be hands free and that's leaps and bounds better than driving anything with one hand, holding a phone to your ear. Missing phone calls sucks, plain and simple. Pulling over and pulling off all your gear to say two words sucks too, so, I'll take the momentary 3% concentration lapse.

While I was kind of joking I am kind of serious. I too am on my phone a good 80 % of the day since I do pretty much the same thing as fate. If you have a problem with people talking on their phones while riding you might as well lump in all the guys/girls with scalia's, chatterboxs and ipods. What pisses me off is your superior tone which runs through your thread and the bittersweet scent of self righteousness. Each to their own. And as far as bring someones family into a discussion and implying that I do not care for their safety makes you a d=head in my book.

Bluetooth integrated into the car's Bose speaker system... it's sooo convenient and much safer allowing you to concentrate on the road w/out having to ever touch your phone - unless you're the one making the call.

All those "no phone" replies just driving me crazy. Why the hell you think that you are more responsible then I am just because you are not answering the phone?
You can listen a music, operate GPS and chew bubble fricking gum.
Some of us have to answer the phone, how am I suppose to hear the stupid phone ringing?
with Scala Rider I don`t have to take my hands off just saying something loud will activate the phone. I`m usually taking the call and asking if I can call back in a minute. Then I don`t have to pull out helmet. Scala sound quality is better then my phone alone.
