Yes, my young friend Bike382 is a man to watch at Maxton. He is willing to experiment, willing to learn. Already fast, and lookin' to be even better! And Soon!

He is taking MY records away, and is looking for more.

He is also looking for another quiet and worthy goal, perhaps without realizing it: Other than ONCE at Bonneville, in 1999; and ONCE at Muroc, also in 1999, NO TRUE PRODUCTION CLASS MOTORCYCLE IN THE WORLD HAS EVER SET A RECORD OVER 200 MPH.

Will 382 be the first one to do that at Maxton? He has all the right stuff, for sure.

I have work to do in the Production and Modified classes so you're safe, FOR NOW!!

Once I'm done in those classes, I will be turning my evil gaze in your direction. Until then, I will be rooting for you, and congrats on the 350HP, that's awesome.

New Sport Rider has an article 250mph on a turbo Busa!! ZOOM ZOOM !

Impressive speeds. My equilibrium (or lack of) makes me dizzy at 170. So I'll just have to read about the 200mph stuff.......

"200mph, no hands. Damn that'd be cool right before the part where you die."

I'm a newbie to the "top speed " thing. How much HP does it actually take for someone(me) to hit 200mph on a busa? I'm 195 #'s @ 5'10". I might have to give it a try this year.

Your weight and height are fine. It is not the HP, but how quick you have to get up to speed. You can gear any Busa with a clear runway of 6 miles and get there, but tht is not going to happen. So then the Hp comes in to play. I would say you are looking at about 171hp with about 2 miles. Also depends if you want to gerar it for just top end and then have a dog on the bottom. How often you going to go 200mph? 200hp will get you to 200mph (again with gearing etc.) in about 1.5 miles. 250hp in about a mile and 310hp will get you there in 8/10's of a mile. there areso many variables to your question. The best thing to do is read all you can find in this site on HP geraring etc.

And at the Maxton Mile, it takes about 200HP to go 200mph in just 1 mile.  Headwinds, drag coefficients, skidplate effect, frontal air impact, downforce effect, riders abilities and weight all play a part in how fast you can go in a Pre-determined length of concrete.  At Maxton, NC, it's 1 mile of concrete.  El Mirage has 1.2miles of dirt and Bonneville has miles of salt, while Texas is another mile long track.

Thanks! I was just wondering if I should bother trying. My bike should have(Lee said) around 195HP when I get it back from him. I was going to talk to him and see if he was going to Maxton when I'm on vacation down there visiting.

I just went 203 mph at lake gairdner my first year at salt racing on a nitrous bussa only a 40 shot the larger shots just spun the wheel at 200+ ( lots to learn yet) im also trying for 220-230 on nitrous for next year ,I still have a big grin

I've been 207 mph on my 2000 'Busa, but didn't do it often or for very long due to an increase in LEO awareness of high end runs. Now that I'm in Germany I intend to do some high end runs on the autobahn, when my bike arrives. I might even film them so others can see the speeds being run over here on roads no different than our interstates. I have a German track here that I need to check on for the availability of use by motorcyclists (Hockenheim).

I want to go 200+ at Maxton next Spring...  I am planning to do a big bore this coming Winter...

One question...  I have an '03.  When I get the big bore, will the shop that does the install be able to work around the speed limiter??  If I recall correctly, the TRE still doesn't work properly on the '03+.

Hopefully I can attain 200+ with big bore...  My calculations put me around 210+/- HP with big bore and pipe.

BTW - For now, I have hit the speed limiter which should be around 184 (the speedo was pegged for a second or so... Hard to look at when cooking!).  Want more!

-Rip

ok, the fastest I have ever been on my Busa is 150. I think a combination of not having a legal place that I know of to go faster than that and.. well just being sort of chicken (at least I am being honest so don’t slam me to hard)

Heck the only time I have ever been faster than 150 was on a plane.. So I guess I am a little apprehensive about doing it on 2 wheels.

I am in central California.. Anyone know where I can go to hit over 150? and anything I should be worried about? or is it a stable ride as long as I don’t quickly sit up and get blown off

Thrasher, don't you worry about it. You wouldn't be human if you didn't 'Pucker' a little at Busa speeds. The bike is very smooth at the limiter is 6th. If you have winds above 10-15 MPH it can make you a little nervous if its your first time.

You have to make liscensing runs anyway, 125, 150, 175, 200, etc. The will ease you into getting the feeling for the bike and it's speed. And of course, you don't have to go fast if you don't want to.

About sitting up at speed, I like popping up from the tuck at about 175, but you better have a good grip or you will blow off.

Here is the link to the SCTA. You should be able to find the information you are looking for there regarding racing around the California area.

TZ750 and LandSpeedLarry are excellent resources for your top speed questions.

Now pardon me while I scream....AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ran a 199.83 MPH this weekend and just missed my 200 MPH Green hat.

Oh well, it gives me something to shoot for next time.

Good Luck and welcome to the big fun of Land Speed Racing.
