Try the grease, shims are not enough. Ive been doing auto brakes for 15 years...sythetic grease has save me alot of comebacks. My brakes never make noise. Now if your sure its just contact noise then the other guys are right but still id try the grease if you havent already.

Bent Buddy, I wouldn't put grease anywhere near my brake componants...not on a bike, they get too hot. I wouldn't recomend anyone do it, not on a bike. If yer bikes brakes are squeelin' , there something wrong.
an' ya, we are talking about the noise that happens when sintered material of the race pad meets the rotor surface.
Yer an' ol' cage mechanic, probably a darn fine one too...
but not all of our "cage tricks" transfer over into the two-wheeled world.
I've seen silicone get used on the back of m/c pads of less performance...and it does work. I still dont like it thou...better to replace the anti squeel shims...but they are not always available for the older turd bikes.
Personally, I just wouldn't put anything on the back of my pads thats not supposed to be there. Who wants hot grease on a brake rotor.
It's not a squeak type of noise. It is the type of material that they use on the HH pads that makes a buzzing type of noise when applying the brakes above about 30 MPH....it's normal with that type of pad.
