I love watches..

How much is your collection worth..If I may ask?

The closest I have ever been to a brietling was the knock off's earlier in thread and I did'nt even know what one was

That is very impressive

I think the Stainless Daytona Rolex is worth more because they were awarded originally only to winners of the 24 hour...

Never offered outright to the public I thought...   They were talking about them on TV for the race last month...

What a collection of watches!   whew..  (What is a "tool" watch?)
As I understand the situation on the SS Dayttona, from the Rolex Forum, Rolex has kept producion of the SS in numbers well below the demand. This obviously has kept the price high.

As long as I mentioned Forums, if any of you have a question regarding the authenticity of a watch you might consider purchasing post it on one of the watch forums, in this case Breitling or Rolex, we are happy to help evaluate watches for you.

Breitling has made its' claim as being an aviators watch. A watch like the B-1 (now the Airwolf) is sometimes called a "Tool Watch" because it is so useful to pilots. The new Super quartz models have unparalleled accuracy. The outer bezel has a countdown timer. Inner bezel is a slide rule for mathematical calculations. 3 time zones (including UTC), digital chronograph, digital timer, 2 alarms. Need I say more.

Well I can afford the Citizen Skyhawk you sold but the rest? just a tad out of my price range

I take it you are a "watch smith" or what ever you would call the ability to fix things so tiny I can not see them... marvelous talent (and must have steady hand)

Fortunately, I have a female to tell me "what time" it is...

No, I'm not a watchmaker. I've just become a collector. funny thing was it all happened unintentionally.

I got rid of the Skyhawk because my eyes were getting a bit too old to read all the functions. It's a b**** to put on reading glasses to read your watch. It was a great piece though, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a very versatile watch at a very reasonable price.

My 1st Breitling was an Aerospace in 1995, and one "B" led to another. The collection has developed over 12yrs. You know what it's like. Doesn't matter if it a Seiko, Citizen, Patek there is something about watches that attract us. For the women, it's diamonds.

As to the question of value. I've been very selective over the years and most of my watches have retained their value, some have increased, but I'd guess we're looking at roughly $40K.

mannnn back in this thread. i might just get a g-shock next, always wanted one... Tanger Outlet here i come!

I must admit that I have learned a few things in this thread.

I'm just below middle of the road in time pieces, some people have beautiful time pieces and like cream, some just rise to the top.

Then there are some who just have a guess watch.

AND IT'S ATOMIC

Is it a kinetic like the Seikos or Eco-type drive like the Citizens?

The link to the Atomic clock is always a neat feature.

your discussion here on watches has been interesting, from an outsiders perspective.
Is the $$$ levels you're discussing for watches really any different than the reasons someone will spend for a Harley? Obviously, there are differences that people are willing to spend for.

We can all survive w/ a $25 Timex. But is it the magic of the features that you can pack into a chip that attracts to Citizen Skyhawks, or the "coolness" of a watch that can generater its' own power - Eco or Kintec. Do we look for a mechanical marvel like a Breitling twin 60 that has 10 functioning hands on a selfwinding mechanical movement, or a Navitimer Olympus 1461 that only needs the date reset once every 4 yrs and tracks the moonphase accurately. Or is it just because we use them as jewelery (It is the only jewelery I wear). These amazing machines fit on your wrist and pack amazing features into a 1.5" x 1.5" case.

In many respects, the ideas as to why we are attracted to them are no different than why you're on a BUSA, or a Honda, Suzuki etc

Here's a shot of my Breitling Astromat 1461, circa 1992. I stumbled across it 2 yrs ago at Tourneau in NY and couldn't walk away from it.

No It's face is a solar panel, and it charges a built in battery whenever exposed to light. So, theoretically, it could last for ever accurately. I found that interesting... Well that and the Cool Blue LEDs.

I agree 100% though, it's all a matter of scale, depth of pockets, and desire. While I have no problem with folks wearing a $250K Ulysse-Nardin if they are wearing it because it's a unique piece of art, a Skeletonized Minute repeater in Platinum. However, it really irritates me when you've got folks wearing rare and unique time pieces simply because it's expensive.

Sure we can all survive with a $25 Timex, and your point is well taken...

Beautiful watch BTW, love the T-Touch BTW, I've been eyeballing one for awhile...

If you go for the T-Touch I've heard of problems with the compass function. My experience has been that it appears to be more a problem of making sure that the watch is level when using this function. I've also found the Temperture function to be off by ~7deg due to body heat, it's easy enough to subtract for the temp.
It's a great piece and I love mine.

As to the solar panel, I believe you'll find that the rechargeable battery, does have a finite life and will eventually need replacing.

It's been fun, and I now know where to go should I ever need advice on a cycle. I may still be young enough to be the next "Eric Von Zipper". Of course if you don't remember him I guess I am too old.

I'll repeat myself, if anyone needs advice on buying a high end watch, especially a used one, feel free to post it (or the auction) on that particular brands forum for evaluation. There are alot of fakes out there. Many excellent ones are coming out of China, they are scarey. We've saved many people lots of $$$$$.

As to your hobby, you are doing the right thing with your choice of wrist wear. I wish you all well, but should you take a slide better it be with a Casio or Citizen. Save the higher end watches for other times.

Oh can you imagine the Insult to injury??? Scab up your Busa AND slap your $10k watch on the asphalt? Oh the agony, that would be some really bad... Timing. Hopefully there aren't a bunch of friends around to... Watch. although if they are around I am sure there will be some... Alarm.
