I have a Joe Rocket Phoenix. It's not the newest version, but it serves the purpose. Has elbow, shoulder and spine pads. It actually provides more sacral protection than my two leathers. I'd go to Ebay and search for Joe Rocket Phoenix and see if you like the pics. I feel you on the T-shirt thing. We in the U.S. need to get over our ego and start protecting our skin/muscle/bone. Happy shopping and let me know how things turn out.

Be blessed.

I have a first gear mesh jacket and love it. It's silver and black from my ZZR so it doesn't match my orange busa but in a crash do you think the skin it saves will care??

yep...I have a joe rocket Phoenix. Feels like you're wearing a t-shirt. But please...stay safe.

Hate to say it, but stay with the leather... nothing holds up like leather in a crash, in my opinion. Get perforated leather, it stays pretty cool.

I crashed bigtime wearing a joe rocket mesh jacket. It saved my skin but I ended up with a broken clavice. EMS shredded the jacket and I ended up replacing it with a Fieldshear mesh/leather jacket. It's great, with leather in the back, front and arms. It has CE rated armor in the back, elbows and shoulders. The rest is mesh which is really cool in the summer heat. Highly reccomended. Chris

Joe Rocket Reactor is a great combo. I feel that leather is allways the way to go but the reactor is perforated leather on the shoulders and arms, then the torso is mesh. Very nice jacket and it looks so much nicer than the all mesh "wellfare" jackets and certainly seem safer to me than all mesh. Altough it costs more than an all mesh jacket - for good reason - LEATHER RULES!

Leather is the way to go - do not forget this simple fact.

i've got a joe rocket reactor jacket with a vest that you can soak for hotter weather.....the temp here runs in the 100's and with the vest being damp....makes for a cool ride:;):

I have the Joe Rocket Atomic, it is the balistic nylon with a zip out vest liner it also has vents that can be zipped open so you get flow though venilation when it gets hot. I paid around $120 or so for it. Has all removable armour and zipper in the back so you can attach pants to it.

Yeah, leather is always the best choice ie:
How the following hold up on concrete at 45mph
skin 2 feet
jean 14 feet
leather 80 feet
(I read this a couple of years ago so if I'm off a little don't chastise me)
The point is you're always better off with leather, but there are other options for other situations.
1-If you're caught in the rain, leather feels like it increases in weight by 500% (textile is the best choice when there is a chance of rain).
2-If you're caught in bumper to bumper traffic with leather your body temp feels like it increases by 500% (mesh is the best choice in low speed high traffic areas like city driving).

To sum it up you're better off ultimately sacrificing and wearing leather for accidents sake (not on-purposes sake).  I'd rather face the elements with too much protection than the concrete with too little protection. However, the initial comparison was to a T-shirt and mesh with a little armor is better than a T-shirt with no armor anyday.
Be safe and be blessed.

Here in central CA it gets upwards of 110+ in the foothills in the summer. I use the aerostich jacket and pants. They are hot but have some vents. I would be cautious with those mesh jackets. If you want protection go for leather or textile, not mesh.

Jacketwise, at the moment I wear a Joe Rocket Orbit when riding on the street. Looks good, lightweight, has padding in the elbows and spine, vents, $100. But I mainly do city street riding in it. If I fall, I'm gonna have some damage, but not quite as much as in a T-shirt. I'm thinking I'll get a Joe Rocket Phoenix for summertime twisty riding...here...in Phoenix. For the 1/4 mile track, I ordered a custom Vanson leather drag suit with extra layers in the slide spots and a spine protector.

80 degrees....an' you were burning up . Buddy...see yer doctor . 80 degrees out an' yer worried about over heating ?

80 is nothing . BURNIN' UP . hehehehe

O , by the way , you wanna feel heat....a friend of mine went down wearing a leather jacket with a fleece jacket underneath . It was early winter . The heat from the friction caused by the body hiting the pavement , caused the fleece to melt underneath the leather .

I hope you have some good friends.....ones that will hold yer hand while yer crying like a fuggin' baby..... you know , going thru all those skin graft operations . hehehehehe

Revlis once said....actually I think his dad told him ....

"Sometimes its just too hot too ride"

But not too worry.....yer a tuff guy.....

PARTY ON DUDE.....

hav a good 1....RSD. hehehehehehe

... I wear cotton T-shirts under my jacket...
Can't imagine how much it would hurt to have the fleece melt on the skin...
