I\'ve got a click or clunk noise from drivetrain area on take off at ti

Don't know yet. Had to help a buddy go pick up his new blue '00 R1. It sounds hollow like chain popping swingarm, but I would localize the noise in rear hub area if I were to hazard a guess. I'll report back. Thank you again. God bless.

Johnny, Motorhead, Johnny, Johnny, Motorhead and RPM- Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you and thank you. That is exactly what it sounds like. Bike is only 2 months old. I'll offer Suzuki the chance to pay for it. God bless.

Kirk:

as J-C said above, rear hub.

However, you can check it easier by puttin bike on swing arm stand, put it in 1st gear and rotate wheel, back and forth while observing "travel" of wheel before it "hook" up;

if you have travel it could be a "dampner" failure or one that has widened, thus is sloppy;

If youhave "slop" in the drive line:

remove rear wheel and duct tape the "paddles" that fit into the dampner, this will "cut" down the extra space, lowering the travel, thus lessening the "slop";

something else that I have found helpful:

re-install rear wheel, snug axle bolt, by hand, put rag inbetween chain and sprocket, rotate tire till chain is tight, tighten axle bolt, rotate wheel back, remove rag;

the theory here is you will "preload" the damper and eliminate or decrease the
"drive-train" slop;

all of the above requires a "quality" chain adjustment with a chain that is not stretched!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Ok, Johnny. I checked the rear hub / cush drive damper thingy today. I put it in first and rolled it back and forth. I cannot duplicate the same sharp metallic "pop" noise that I hear when letting the clutch out from a stop. I see about 3/16" of radial slop between the aluminum hub that the sprocket bolts to and the black painted hub portion of the rear wheel. This bike has not been subjected to any kind of drivetrain induced impact trauma like burn offs, snatch wheelies, clutch wheelies, open throttle power shifting, drag race type launches, etc. - the bike still scares me too much to screw off with it. I am now at 3700 miles. I just did my 3600 mile service. The chain and sprockets are OE, and the chain is lubed regularly with PJ-1 blue label. I find no tight spots in chain. I know that you cannot diagnose a vehicle over the internet, I just want to surface the issue here to benefit from the vast anecdotal experience of those here (mostly you). Thank you again.

Kirk,(Christian Dog! Vile infidel Pig!), I will have a new chain and sprockets installed on thursday and show my wrench this thread....I have already had my cush drive apart over this issue and there was no sighn of any damage....I will report the results as soon as I get back from the shop...no rocket science here, just obsevation.....

Just out of curiosity, when your bikes are up on a stand and in first gear, how much rotation does your wheel exhibit? I was a bit shocked by mine, like a 1/4 turn almost. That was after chain adjustment. A bit too much driveline slop, or the norm? I do have that weird sound too.

Mr. Boom- sounds ok to me. What you are seeing is called a "tolerance stack up". You are seeing the slop in the cush drive, chain slop, transmission slop, all combined to make one big feeling of looseness.

Thank you Hapo, I will look forward to hearing back from you. Is this a warranty repair you are doing, or is it an upgrade that you are paying for?

I was not clear. Yes I will buy the clutch mod from Brock as soon as he has some cores in, and I will install it myself. But if there is a warrantable defect of the chain (or the cush drive or anything else), I will give Suzuki the opportunity to pay for that stuff. Thank you again, Johnny.

Kirk, I think I know what it is! It's your spare ammo in your mouth clickin 'gainst you're teeth, maybe?

:) :)

I just put a new rear wheel dampner in mine I will check it and if one comes in today with miles I will compare.
KIRK do you have a Brock Mod?
I know you may have said but trying to get out to go to work.

Since day 1 (all 30 days ago), my new 'Bus has had tight/loose spots on the chain.

When I first got it home, I check the slack and found it to be good... if not a bit much.

I checked it a few days later, and it felt sorta tight? So, I proceeded to push the bike forward a foot, check slack, and repeat. I found that about 70% of the chain felt about right when I did this, and the other 30% felt too tight.

Oh yeah, Kirk... I get the clunk on take-off's too (about 30% of the time... hmmm).
