Thanks everyone, especially RussellJ. I have my custom gauge designs and Webslinger is making them for me. After I receive them, I hope I'm not too afraid to do the install.

RussellJ, IM me your PayPal address. :beerchug:

Could ya use webslinger gauges after the LEDs were changed by bluegauges?

i'm sure something could be worked out...if you find a set of designs you like, i would contact Scott (easiest way is email him at scott@bluegauges.com) and just ask him what was possible, he's a great guy and was super easy to work with :beerchug:

So, do you think I can get away with the OEM orange dash lights or do I need to change to another color?

Russell, I will IM you later today.

You might but changing the colors would look sick. What i can do is order white and red. I can put on whichever color we decide with first and if you arent feeling it we can try the other color  or go back to orange if you dont like either. Get your gauge faces first then if you dont like tje orange or think another color would look better we can fix her up

webslinger does really great work. i had him do a design for my gauges, and i liked it so much it ended up as a tattoo. eventually, when i decide on a theme for my bike, i WILL be picking up some gauge faces from him.

Well, my custom gauges from Webslinger arrived last week and they look great. Now, to install; do I have to remove the nose cowling to be able to unhook the gauge panel? Any advice on installation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

BMW,
1. Just remove the surrounding covers from the gauges
2. you will see the 2 bolts that hold the gauges at the bottom, use a 8mm socket to get those out
3. cover your top tripple with a microfiber or two, as you will pull on the top part to get the gauges out, and i bet you dont want to hit the gauge cover on the top tripple
once the gauges are free frm the front stay, pull the boot on the connector and then pull the connector by pressing the tab in the middle..
4. regarding the webslingler gauges, I would recomend staying away from glueing the little needle stopper he provides, if glue gets past the holes, it will ruin the gauges.. ask me how I know
5. on your factory gauges you can remove the needle stoppers with fine needle nose pliers and mount them on the new gauges after maybe cleaning the edges of some of the holes.
6. one other point is to ensure that the center bore of the new gauges fit in the neddle base, if not then the needles tend to get stuck. again you can clean this bores out with regular hobbiest sanding rods...

good luck

Thanks Riccoh,

I will let you know how things go once I attempt to do the install.

reviving this thread.... does anyone know a shop that is doing custom gauges for the gen II? i really need to freshen up my cluster for this coming season

I'de send them to Scotts Blue Guages for a color change, they have several to chose from.
I was told by them that they can also add a remote dimmer.
You can have different guages different colors too, just depending on the guage cluster and board itself, so one color doesn't bleed into the other.
They changed my gen2 guages to blue, and personally it was much easier for my eyes to focus quickly on at night.

Scooby, that looks interesting... care to share the process? I will love to be able to remake the ones I had on my 07 and 06 a few years back since I still have the templates and rendering from those

Another vote for bluegauges. They did mine back in 2010 and not a single issue. I went with all white analog & digital parts, blue neutral and removed high beam indicator.
