The reason IL and other states have/are pushing mandatory traffic laws such as seatbelts, helmets etc is to generate revenue. Not out of some concern for taxpayers future claims......
It's all the people that require ICU and lifetime care by the taxpayer. It falls on the state when their insurance reaches the limit in a few days of critical care. Dead riders don't cost as much. Funeral is usually covered by insurance.
Has nothing to do with generating revenue through tickets.
I might get flamed for this but, I think ALL the state's should have a helmet law. On your bike, helmet on your head. If you wear your seatbelt in the car, why not wear your helmet on the bike.
Im with you. Thats one thing I dont get with AZ, U can ride a bike with out a helmet and ride on the back of a pick up with out any restraints but in a car u need to have a belt on. WFT I dont get it
South Dakota is another state as well as Florida that doesn't require a lid. I've been riding for over 10 years and I've seen what happens to people heads when they don't wear them when they crash. To each its own, but I always wear a lid regardless of where I'm going or how far I have to travel
