In a bind...

Va,I would make every effort to keep the cat off the vehicle but getting angry at the cat if he jumps up on the jeep is like blaming a compass for pointing north, thats what cats do!!!!! I think this is where some compromises might be warrranted om both you and your husbands part,My 2 cents. NJ.

My goal is to keep him off of all vehicles! This has just gotten worse with the new vehicle sitting in the driveway as of last night.

It's been an ongoing problem between the hubby and I for years now...and the cat's 9 or so now, so he can't really be "retrained"...

We have car covers, but if you don't use 'em, you can't really expect 'em to work (that's for you, hubby)

I'm going to try the device I found...hope for the best, otherwise, my compromise will be to hand the cat over to the Humane Society...then listen to the hubby moan about the mice we suddenly have...

Try getting some OC = Pepper Spray like you carry at night. Spray some on the tires, bumper, and other non painted parts. I know this works for keeping animals away from plants. Just make sure it won't hurt the paint. Does anyone know if it hurts paint?

No experience specifically with sonic devices and cats, but I have used a device that repels insects on my front porch, and have a lot less dead bugs congregating on windows sills. Not sure if the sound is distasteful to bugs or if it just makes cricket sounds to make them think they might get eaten.

Feed a dog, pet a dog. It looks at you and thinks..."damn, he must be God."

'nuff said

My dad has the same problem Michelle, so I can sympathize with your situation.  Actually my dad puts a couple rubber snakes on the hood, trunk, and top of his car and it seems to work like a charm.  NO CATS!!  Give it a shot and see what happens.

Make sure the snakes are big enough to "threaten" the cat. If they are too small, cat may go "mmmmm lunch or new toy"

If you go with the de-claw option....leave the dew(?) {aka..thumb} claw. This will still allow him to climb trees if he needs to. Check with vet to verify this info

Hope this helps,

Va, I think you're making a mistake, You chose the cat,the cat didnt have a say in the matter,Its a big responsibility taking on a pet.You made that decision, and now because your husband got new jeep,86 the cat? Thats not right, the cat is a bonified member of the family now.My dogs give me nothing but unconditional love, all they ask in return is to be fed and loved. They chew the occasional item here and there, but I'm not just going to disown them! This is a matter of principal now.Use the covers and fulfil your committment to your pet.Cats climb, cats jump, they're cats for christs sake!

ok, here is my opinion for what it is worth, probably nothing. I have had indoor and outdoor cats all my life. To dclaw one is not inhumane, they are hunters and fighters. It handicapps them but they can still kill small animals and run, they just can't climb. He'll figure that oout after a while' If you get then neutered...ouch.... most but not all of the time they will stop marking their terrirtory. We have 3 now 1 neutered and declawed and still terrorizes the neighborhood, 1 declawed and kills stuff just about everyday, fasterbut can't take the first one and a third that has everything and gets hia azz whooped daily by the other two. All males, however they do still leave paw prints. Sorry never tried any electrical devices.
A friend of mine keeps the neighbors pt bull off his fence with a high frequency noise maker that keeps rodents out of warehouses. So, this seems like it may work.

Lots of good responses.
VaBusa if all else fails, I will adopt it and let it live here with me.
There is plenty of space around my house and lots of barns and garages to hangout in, with other cats.
Field mice are plentiful and I can supply cat food, water and plenty of fresh cow milk.
Maybe the cats a yankee anyways and wants to move.
I would hate to see an animal killed just to protect the finish on a new vehicle.

Yeah, I'm thinking the device is where I'll go...hell, it's less than $50, so I should just buy it and see for myself, huh?

If you ever get down Atlanta way, bring him with you. We have anywhere from 10 to 15 outdoor cats. They keep the mice and other rodents down and in exchange, I feed em.
One more won't hurt.

Hrmmm...road trip on the Busa perhaps?!

Changing the thread to "how to transport a pissed off kitty on the Busa"

hi V A , i have a couple of those cat critters , i trained them not to scratch certain things by spaying a mix of vinnegar and water on the area about 10% vinegar the rest water . They Do not like the smell. Perhaps a stronger mix would keep them further away. might work ...

Ummm... Hello? ? ?
Its a JEEP fer christ's sake!
Its SUPPOSED to get dirty & scratched.
Only a wannabe poser or hardley rider would care.
wow.gif

Don't you guys have a garage? Was it me I'd say its time for a new Hubby.

The problem with those sonic devices is they aren't specific enough.
Plus different animals have different tolerances.

My wife had a cat. I made a "late night trip once."...no, j/k. I sympathize with you, but have noooo experience with your kind of situation. It would never have been something I would have even thought about...so, in a sense, you helped me...

I love animals too, and Nefertiti could solve all of your problems.

Who is Nefertiti?

My 2 yr. old, 100 lb. Rottweiler.

I'm sure she would just play with the cat .............. play catch that is !!
