Invictus

After reading/replying to DirtyPete's thread on children and Busas, I was reminded of my favorite poem. Ever since I first read this poem when I was 13 I have tried to live up to it. I thought I would share it with everyone! Its called "Invictus".

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley (1849-1903)

Rypp: I'm gonna have a decal made of that and put it right beside my NO FEAR sticker on the windscreen!

...something to live by for sure.

I have been trying to find the best way to fit "Invictus" onto my bikes license plate:
NVICTS
NVICTZ
INVKTS
INVCTS
INVCTZ
Any ideas?

What makes this poem even more meaningful is the fact that Henley wrote while laying in a hospital bed after having part of a leg amputated!

You're right. A licence is a better idea.

The poem decal would kind of have to trail on down over the headlight and onto the fender, which would make it hard to read at 100 mph.

Good post. Thanx.

I am the captain of my soul. Time to do something for my soul.
