flags in church

I've grown up in and attended numerous different denominations of protestant churches and the Roman Catholic Church as well. Most of these churches were in the south. I can't say I've ever been to a church, other than the few that were held in businesses or homes, because a church building did not actually exist, that didn't have both flags and banners, and flowers, and candles, and crosses, etc. Most hymnals even have hymns like America the Beautiful, and the Battle Hymn of the Republic, etc. These items are normally used on special Sundays like Memorial Day, July 4th, things of that nature.

Not saying that I oppose the U.S. flag being displayed. I wouldn't be upset if it was not displayed either. There are alot bigger things that offend me in today's churches. I would rather see a U.S. flag displayed than a so called "Christian" flag

I don't know brother, I've never been asked to say a pledge of alligance to an American, Canadian, or Christian Flag in church.

It's kinda like flowers, stained glass, red carpet, pews, alters, etc.

But I'm not offended that you have an issue with it. Why would I be.

They do it here at the start of service(dont go to those churches) Dont have a problem saying the pledge to our countries flag, but I will not say a pledge to any other flag.

The book tells us and I believe it quotes Christ that we should abide by our government because all governments are set up through God. Now I did my own thing with that from memory, and I know what's coming next; a long list of very evil governments.

And then there's little tid bits that not all laypersons understand like give to Ceasar what is Ceasars and to God what is God's.

Anyway debate is great, but the hounding is getting boring and it really doesn't look good guys.

Jesus was not obeying the government while he lived why would he tell his followers to obey.

What religious purpose would partiotism serve?

Philippians 3:20 (Today's New International Version)
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Thanks Thrasher for the bible gateway link.

RESULT

All this for nothing. I caught the end of a 3rd hand rumor/story that went wrong.

Seems the flags were removed for some musical action and had not been put back yet. Nice. They will be back up soon. I'm glad to hear the flags were NOT removed because they offended someone. If a FLAG offends someone, that someone has issues they need to deal with privitely.

GOD BLESSED AMERICA

If you are a member of that church, get a couple of these for you and some fellow clergy that feel the same, to wear to the service.
The fellows running the church may get the idea.

None of this is an excuse for a bad shirt.

1)You need to explain that one SS.

2)We're asked to abide by whatever government is in place, however I don't think outside that there really is a purpose, sort of like most of your arguments

Now before you get all pissy and try to get me banned or send me nasty PMs I was joking. Love ya, mean it.

By the way, I'm not representing Christians, but I am forgiven for all my many shortcomings.

Never worry about offending me by cracking on me. I am laughing right along with you.

Ok I am the last one to send anyone a nasty PM I am a big boy and realize not everyone agrees with me. I am glad that is the case because it makes for good conversation.

My point was that it is my understanding that during the time of Jesus the Romans were the rulers and what Jesus was teaching was very unpopular and contrary to the desires of the leaders of the time. Thus it seems Jesus was doing exactly the opposite of what Peter is telling us to do.
