Is a Busa for me ?

You say that you're 51, which is not a factor in the decision. You didnt say how tall you are, which IS a factor. If you're 5'0", a Busa isnt gonna be your best choice. If you're 7'0", its not gonna be your best choice. If you fall between those points, can hold up a bike thats heavier than your FZ1, dont mind excess amounts of torque, speed and "cool factor", then it seems like you've answered your own question.

Good point. I'm 5'11" 200 lbs and I am not a upper body
stength guy. What is the wet weight of a Busa?

I'm 56 and wouldn't be on anything other than a Busa.Get yourself some Heli-bars and either some Werkes Moto GP pegs(what i have)or the Buell kit and enjoy yourself...you won't regret it.

:welcome: Glad to have you on the org. Your way too old for a busa.

No really, go get yourself a busa and you will LOVE it! I'm almost 60, and I ride mine to work almost every day. My 05 has 55K miles on it, and I trailer it to most of our big meets. I have done 500 miles in a day many times on it. A few mods will make the busa feel like that old pair of shoes, comfortable. A few I would recommend
1. double bubble windshield
2. Buell peg mod
3. bar risers
4. throttlemeister cruise control
5 HID headlight if you ride at night

I got the CBR1000RR last month and sold it 3 weeks later. Way fast just too uncomfortable. I loved it but I am lovin the Busa more. Its like a Cadillac with rocket assist. Check craigslist tons of great deals just buyer beware.

I had my 07 FZ1 for a year and put about 10,000 miles on it. Ended up riding it on a 1000 mile trip in 2 days to trade it for a guy's 05 Hayabusa. I rode the 05 Busa back the 1000 miles and I will say I was far more comfortable on the Busa. The guy I traded for had turned the Busa in to a touring bike as it had a Bagster Tank Bra & Bag and a Givi rear top case. Two additions that made the Bike awesome to travel with. He also added Heli Bar's. I found the Busa was far more comfortable in the seat even after going through a Sgt, Corbin, and Yamaha Gel seat on the FZ1, I still thought the stock Busa seat was better then all of them. The reach to the bars was also more comfortable for me on the Busa especially if you like to lay on the tank as the FZ1 would put way to much of a bend in them when leaned. When not leaned over on the FZ1, it annoyed my back as it forced my to sit straight up in the seat but then again I do have bad posture.

I'd also say after having 6 bikes the FZ1 had the worst gas mileage, which from what I understand is pretty standard with all the Yamaha's. If I babied the throttle on the FZ1 and rode only highways I could get maybe 42 where as the Busa could get me almost 50. The Busa also had a further range as the tank is bigger.

I did find the Busa cramps of the legs a bit more but it's not bad. I figure after 150 miles I'm getting off to stretch anyways but this could be a factor for those with bad knees.

Then again I might be a bit weird as I also find my 08 CBR 1000rr more comfy then my FZ1. Each bike fits each of us a bit different so your mileage may vary.

Good luck with your decision.

Probably around 550 lbs, but its also the center of gravity, which on a Busa tends toward low. To me, it doesnt feel top heavy at all... quite the opposite, it feels low and planted. The only way you're REALLY gonna know is to hit the dealership and sling a leg over it. A little side to side leaning will tell you what you need to know. JFYI, there are a significant amount of women here that ride a 'Bus, too. Upper bod strength isnt really a factor once you're over 10 mph anyway, a speed MY 'Busa can attain pretty easily.

Well, I DO have a TRE, after all...

Seriously, bro... its THE bike, period. I've gone thru a bunch of bikes, less than a lot of people here, but thru my fair share none the less, and its easily the best bike I've owned. Im 6'4", done the mods to make it more comfortable (Heli's, Buell pegs, Corbin seat, Bubble screen), and now it fits me like a glove.
If you can ride decently well, you'll never regret buying one, and dont let the power scare you off. Its like a loud stereo... its only gonna do what you tell it to do, so its all up to you.
Be nice, and it plays nice. Be angry with the right hand, and it WILL reply with an astounding response, like nothing else I'VE ever ridden.
:rulez:

Its nice to know its got all 'dat juice if you want / need it, thats for sure.

I'm pretty new to the busa. Coming from a SV1000 I had for 3 years. It feels heavy when coming to a stop or in slow turns especially when required to adjust speed in mid turn. I'm getting alot better at predicting the reactions of the bike. I have alot to learn and acquaint to, I won't be out growing this bike for a long time. You will feel how heavy the bike is when coming to a stop. It is very smooth power, lots of it. It has a very weird clutch feel to it, not bad just weird. 2up riding is great, has a generous rear saddle and it isn't as high up as some other bikes. I do have to take breaks about every hour to stretch and un numb the extremities. Huge aftermarket options for any direction you want to go, touring, track, strip, bling (if you need attention).

It is 575 wet. I love ridding two up on this bike. I can stay with a group even with the extra mass of a person on the back. Infact my bike didn't even notice my passenger.

One word of caution, I found my self going fast when I first bought it. It is so planted you don't get the twitchy nervous feeling so you will look down and realize you are doing 90mph.:welcome:

I often take day trips I am 6'1" and 40. I get off every couple of hours or so usually thirsty or have to take a leak by then anyways. I have been riding for 30 years lots of them on sport bikes and the hayabusa is simply the finest all around sport bike package going for the street. However most of the people who purchase one thinking they don't care about going fast soon find themselves doing just that. Did I mention that they also make you ten years younger.

You'll love the comfort and two up comfort of the Busa. Cool factor through the roof, and the lack of speed will be found in your wrist
