Is a busa right for me.

Welcome aboard, KeyserSoze.

First off, a Busa sounds like it might be the right next bike for you. Your post implies some maturity, and maturity is very much needed with the Busa. I moved up from a Katana 600, but that was one of the smaller bikes I've owned - the Busa is number 14 for me.

You will not believe what a Busa is until you ride one. My first ride impressions are in this New Owners section:

https://www.hayabusa.org/forum/new-owners-forum/99407-first-ride-impressions.html

The comments from others tell me that they are not getting bored with their Hayabusas either. Amazing bike.

Hope you go for it!

- Cheers, AJ

Now that I've read your post. The Gen I Busa at around 4K gets 50 MPG, and is an incredible two up long haul cruiser.

It sounds like theres more to the busa than just screaming at 200 mph. What kinds of things does a guy need to be aware of on an extremely high performance bike. The back tire accidentally spinning out. Accidental high sides. I've been told the busa is the Goldwing of sport bikes and that appeals to me. I'm not ready to run out and buy one right now I'm just considering my options. I wouldn't have posted except most of the info I've read about the busa centered around it being so fast. I wondered if there was another side to busaship. It sounds like it's whatever you make it.

:)

It's a cult bike. Each cult bike has a following for a reason. The reason on the Busa is an amazing balance of unbelievable power mixed with very sporty handling. It's not track bike handling (GSXR, CBR, R6,...), but balanced more for the street. So far, it feels a lot like my old Katana, and it should, the dimensions are similar and the Busa only weighs about 30 lbs more. I took one ride on a Busa and was hooked. Even though I kept looking at other bikes to buy, the Busa kept creeping into my consciousness.

Back tire spinning. Yes, entirely possible. Unlike most bikes, you won't be snicking her down 1, 2, or 3 gears and wacking open the throttle. You don't need to and you won't want to.

As for the reputation for being so fast, well it won't be through the turns. A good 600 sport bike will slip past you in the twisties, but I never rode that way on the street anyway - too much chance of there being something I didn't see entering the turn (leaves, water, gravel...). No, the reputation about being so fast is the incredibly visceral acceleration. You see a lot of Busas with a big pad on the back of the pilot seat. There's a reason for that, and you gotta feel it to believe it.

I find it funny that people think they don't have to shift gears. Lets say pass 3rd if they are only going 45 or 50. The bike is just like a car with a manual transmission. Sure the car can go to 50 in 2nd or 3rd. But you wouldn't do it all the time. It would torture the motor. Its the same thing with a bike.

But anyway, if you do two up riding the busa would be alot more comfortable then a 600

Welcome to the busa'a world:)
Let me put it from my point of view – I am 33 at this moment, had 600, 750 and 1000 all from Suzuki, and with my height – 6.2 they all were little small. So I decided to go for Busa; not to have bragging rights about how fast I can go, but purely I can fit on it without problems.
So I got it – oh boy, that was the best decision I made in my life. If you don’t wanna go fast that’s cool she can crawl if you want her to, or she can knock your shoes off.
Busa is like V8 – you don’t have to ride it hard every time, but in case you need to all the power is there:) Bottom line – busa is comfy, big, and fast if you want to, and mostly stable.
I won’t change it for anything else.

I got 52 mpg yesterday on hwy/mountain roads. Not using the biek computer, actual gas used and milage ridden.

I would not worry about the milage!

CAUTION : CAUTION: CAUTION:

Once you ride this bike, you WON"T ride anything else  Most comfy "sportbike" out there IMO. You won't regret one minute.... I consistently get 45 - 48 mpg on mine, and I do like to play (a little bit )

I'll go ahead and say :welcome: to the oRg :cheerleader:

Hi.
I owned a 600cc Honda hornet for 5 years then in August 08' I went into the Suzuki shop to buy a pair of gloves. I sat on the busa while waiting and came out with it and the pair of gloves.

I was worried about the acceleration of it and thought it was maybe to much. Sooo after doing 15mph out of the shop and having it in girly "C" mode I headed the 70 mile jaunt home slightly uneasy.
After around 2mins I was pushing it a bit further as you would and I was loving it. When i arrived home I had her out of Girly mode and into WAHHHOOOOO mode "A".

I love this bike soooo much and i really would love to own two. One for the rain and one to polish and keep inside to show off.

Bottom line is. ITS AMAZING.

The only fault i find with this (and this is maybe just me) but when i wanted to pop down to the shops i would hop on the 600 instead of taking the car. Now however I take the car and only take her out on bigger runs

I really hope you decide to get one.
ITS WORTH BUYING ONE FOR THIS FORUM ALONE.

Good luck in your decision.

Chris

Imagine the smoothness of the grandest Cadillac and the acceleration and punch of the most expensive Lamborghini.

Other than the seating position - you could drink a cup of coffee on a dirt road. The smoothness of the ride is phenominal and the punch is unbelievable.

I average about 42 MPG. Riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway I average 55 MPG just enjoying the sights.

If you are a mature rider you will wonder why you did not buy this bike sooner.

if you test ride it you'll pick up an throw that 600 upside the sales man head an leave with it. i wanted comfort most of all why i am on it.

What's up Key? I was 38 years old when I started riding. Took the MSF in the summer of '05 and bought a used '01 R1 in October of the same year. Less than two years later, I traded it in for a brand new '07 Busa. The best thing I've ever done. I would not go back to 1000. By the way, I'm 6'ft tall. The Busa is very, very comfortable on long rides. I've done 800+ miles in one day a couple of times and felt like I can keep going. 500 mile rides is a walk in the park. You'll love it. My bike has now close to 37,000 miles and will turn 16 months on the 27th of this month. That alone will tell you how much I love it. I don't go crazy out there either. With a wife and two kids, I can't afford to get into trouble.

I agree with that, memorex....You'll be cruising the freeway in town at lower rpm's which means 4th and 5th gear....I'm finding the busa to be a do-all bike and am enjoying the heck out of it! As has already been stated, with the proper mods, the busa can be used for a touring bike or at the drag strip..and everything in between. Or you can keep it stock and just enjoy it as is...

I went from a 2007 kawi to a 2008 busa, i love it.
The busa is not for the little, small or weakling type.
600 kawi that is and i think i made the right choice in getting a busa. Get frame sliders tho before it even leaves the dealer, saved my fairing once.
