Is a Hayabusa right for me? advice needed...

first of all good for you for doing the research, i use my busa for power cruising, it's comfortable enough for me but the seat is easily upraged for preferance, the overall seat hight is lower then most smaller liter bikes, but it's compensated for by just straddling the beast, for your frame i would say this bike is going to be everything you want it to be. a good thing to look for on a bike with some "miles" is the fork seals and pay attention to the transmission while riding it, there well built but after years of abusive riding second gear can start to slip out. have fun with it and go with your gut.

good point on a bike with 470 miles that has been sitting for in a garage rotting...im just concerned about a bike that has been reamed out. anything i should look out for other than a bike with a new paint job or road rash?

Make sure it runs smoothly, starts easy.
Cosmetics are over rated.
Just make sure the engine was well cared for, other than that, not much.

From the sounds of things you have made up your mind, just looking for the right opportunity to jump in. Sounds like the Busa will be a good fit for you. Plenty of power and speed yet I can pull 50mpg out of mine if I stay off the throttle. If there is something that doesn't fit you just right there are tons of options from bar risers, lower pegs, lower whole bike etc.

Welcome and enjoy. Word of advice, don't test ride until you can buy as you will fall in love immediately and when you do buy post up pics or the pic police will find you.

Call me crazy if you want to, but my Busa is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. I have never noticed the heat issue that some speak of. Maybe it's because I always wear full gear and the leather pants shield me from it.

My 05 has 32K miles and I enjoy it is much today as I did the first day I rode it home.

Grip it and rip it :beerchug:

This thread needs a picture...

I wear full gear also and dont notice the heat. My 05 is the best bike I have ever owned. Given your riding history you should have no problems. Respect the right wrist and you will be fine. You will also find the Busa is a pussycat at low speeds and rpms, very docile, but if you open her up, you will be surprised. That is what gets most riders, she will bite you when you think you have mastered her. Welcome to the board.

Sounds like the Busa will be a good fit for you.

You have made up your mind.

Now just decide on what year you want- each year is a different color, I specifically wanted the color scheme of the one I have (the '07 blue is also really sweet!!). Also decide on a budget and target price (since you have already decided this is bike for you). (paying cash? financing used bike?)

For example, I wanted a used one with low miles (mine had 12K on it when I got it) with some mods, but the motor untouched. Things like pipe & power commander are common mods that are helpful to already get if you can with a used model.

Now go search. I posted on all the busa forums as newb what I wanted, and eventually someone emailed me with exactly what I asked for. Forums are great for that. Otherwise, CraigsList, & CycleTrader.com are your friend.

You are big guy, but the Busa loves big guys. You can mod the bike any way you want too. Ton o stuff for this bike out there.
Here's a page to get you started thinking about mods: <--linky
Can't own it without a list of mods you want to do to it to make it yours.

Here's my first pic when I got it home. I was so excited!

Eventually morphed into this.

Skies the limit on mods, and making it fit you the way you like it!

Go get the bike, make that laundry list, and keep us posted!

Seems like a good thread to make my intro on this board with.

I have been reading Pashnit's stuff for a while. Starting to think a new bike may need to find me sooner rather than later.

6'3" 200 lbs. About 17 years riding and I have been on the same CBR900RR since 1998. It is about worn out 100K+ mi original instruments are gone so I am not sure how far beyond, though I'd like to make it halfway into next summer before buying a Bus. The other serious contender is a Triumph Sprint . . .

I am really glad to see another dedicated board other than LABusas. . .

What is the concensus on the '08?

I'm 6'2" and almost 51 yrs old. The overwhelming thing I've noticed about a Busa is how comfortable it is. Having rode standards most of my life then getting my Busa, IMO that "comfortable, upright, riding position" of a standard is a crock. I never realized that my back hurting after 100 miles wasn't "normal", but after the first time 200 miles went by on my Busa and nothing hurt, I started having doubts. Then 300 and 400 miles, still no pain, I'll never ride a standard again.
I think you'll love a Hayabusa.
Welcome to the Org, don't forget the pictures when you get one.

if you can ride that cr500 you can handle busa no problem go for it:welcome:

I agree and it does sound like you've made up your mind already. The Busa is a great bike and you won't find any better supporters than here on the .org! Welcome and let's see pics of what you get! BTW, that 03 would be a better deal if you could get it for between $6000 and $6500.

thanks for all the feedback everyone....

everyone is right...lol...i think i have made up my mind on the busa.

im gonna wait until winter for the best deal or until i find exactly what i want, and drop a few pounds while im waiting. ive had pretty good luck with finding stuff on craigslist and there are quite a few busas on it right now. there will probably be even more in november/december.

someone said if i can handle a cr500 dirt bike, i can handle a busa. AINT THAT THE TRUTH!!!!!

thanks again...

one more thing.....are foot control extensions available for the busa? i wear a size 16 shoe and have had to mod my foot controls for comfort in the past.

Big Boy like you needs this, if that's not in the cards..then you will love the Busa or M109.
I have the 525 HP Boss Hoss, 08 Busa and M109. For show the Boss, for need for speed Busa (all though the Boss will give it a good run), for comfort and cruisin' M109. Try the M109...super comfortable..and cool:thumbsup:

I'd post a pic of the Busa, but just got it last week. I have not had a chance to put my personal touch to it...so pardon the pic of the Boss. Felt like I needed to post alittle somthing..
