Is it the beat or the songwriter?

What's the general concensus?

Omar, trust me, you're wrong

I just find it amazing that so many listen to a good song and NEVER hear a single word LOL Hrmmm, who do I know named Omar that does this?! :moon:

You can add me to that list.

I can sing along to most songs as long as the music is playing. Take the music away and just give me the lyrics and I would claim I never heard that song before.

But I know a guy *cough* Omar that never even listens to the words...he only hears the beat...it's maddening LOL

I just spoke to Blues and he said girls aren't smart enough to know what the words mean...

 ---------- I know I know :corner:

I'll sing 'em all this Friday my friend...great beat, but also great songwriting!! Thank you Dave!

you listen to music for the music, not the lyrics.
but its a tough question...

having great music will make you a one hit wonder...have great music AND great lyrics will make you a star.

Words? They have words?

"Anyone Seen The Bridge"....no words, just a great beat

the words to a song is what captures my attention more than anything. can usually relate what they write with every day life...the beat is fun, but it's not everything

I agree completely with this. I like the music, but the words are what is gonna move you the most.

My favorite Zeppelin song...nice to just chill to...

Being a drummer in a previous life....the beat usually gets me before the lyrics.

Id have to go with beat... there are many songs out there I love the beat to that I will listen to over and over again even if the lyrics are sub par.... where as theres only a hand full of songs I will listen to over and over again if the lyrics are amazing and the beat sucks... but truthfully almost all amazing lyrical songs have decent beats...

...have this ongoing "fued" where I'm clearly right, he's clearly wrong

A good beat in a song is surely a plus, keeps you involved with the music I guess, but for me, I'm a fan of songwriters and I don't mean sappy stuff (well, not always) but the words to a song is what captures my attention more than anything. I am a huge fan of true songwriters and can usually relate what they write with every day life...the beat is fun, but it's not everything

What's the general concensus? Good beat or the lyrics?

And if it's the beat, what captures your attention more? The drummer or the guitarist?

I am a beat guy being a big fan of techno music that drives normal people to suicide
