Hey guys, I just brought home my 06 LE busa on the 1st of this month, Ive only managed to get 297 miles on it. one thing bothers me is this knock i get at idle, and if i just "blip" the throttle real quick. you can feel it through the handlebars and the knock seems to be coming from between the bottom of the bike and just below the tank on either side.. it isnt LOUD parsay, but you can feel it and hear it if you are listening for it. it will only knock till about 3000 rpms and then it dissapears. ive only taken her over 6,000 RPMs about twice and both those occasions i still stayed under 8,000. this noise happens when the busa is both cold and hot but more noticeably when its hot. ideas? or is this the clutch knock i have heard about?? thanks all in advance

Same noise here, it bothers me. Not too worried though, busa's are noisy and still under warranty.

I heard the 06 LE's are being recalled so that I can have the only one. You have to take it back and get the Cranberry.

Mine sounds exactly like yours!!!!! Horrible ain't it.
See this
The originator of the Thread PM'ed me to tell me that his idea of changing the bearings in the clutch did not work. He has told me that since the problem he has put on 10000+ miles and that all the 'informed' people he knows say that some of the busas make this noise and its not a problem !
I am gon't try to just live with it and see how it goes!
regards...

I have an '06 LE, and I also picked it up the 1st of the month, So far the ONLY thing that Bothers me about is that darn KNOCK! exactly as described above!! It is so annoying, but runs fantastic at higher rpms. Hopefully someone has some words of wisdom about this anomally. I am thinking I saw something somewhere about synchronizing the throttle bodies to alleviate this, if this is true, we need more info. Thank you

My 06 does it too.... My hurricane does it too. I think it is just that the valves have a little more play than those sissy 600's

The big ol engines need some play to keep from coming apart under all the hp.

The injectors make some noise too, are you sure that is not what you hear?

I can't say for sure but it could be the flapper valve inside the air box. While idling or low RPM's this valve will open and shut several times. I have a similar sound on my 03 and I took out the airfilter and watched the valve move while idling and that is what I figured my noise to be. So try that and see if your valve inside the airbox is what is making the noise.

Let us know what you guys find and good luck.

my 05 does it too, only after warmed up
my shop explained its a cam chain tensioner, which is not perfectly synched, and will work itself out in time.
oh by the way, my 05 has nearly 18k miles:D

This is the link to what you need to fix the problem. http://www.fastforwardmotorwerks.com/busaclutch.html

It is called the "back torque limiter". When I had this problem before a mechanic took out the two piece limiter and had it welded together. Problems solved. I had to call him to find out for sure and if that was right and he said yes. My only advice is check your chain first and make sure its not slapping you swing arm, My bike made the sound when me and my wife tried to do a wheelie on the interstate right after I bought the bike. It clanked so hard when I poped the clutch when it grabe the bike stood straight up on me and I had to use the rear brake to catch it.  I hope this helps some people.  One more thing if your bike is under warranty keep the two piece stock limiter and order a one piece. This will void you warranty if they catch a one piece or a welded one in your bike.

definitely in the clutch. Just got my bike today and notcied the clunk noise while sitting with the clutch in at a redlight. If you goose it just a bit, the clunking speeds up then goes away. Popped it into neutral and the noise is gone. The bike sure sounds good though especially compared to my ex ST1300 which sounded like a vacuum cleaner.

I found out today that my klunk is coming from the rear engine mount.
It sounds as if the engine is knocking at idle to 2200 rpms.
The engine vibes are resonating thru the mount into the frame.
this is common among the later year bikes.
hope this helps!

Thats the most logical thing I've herd. I looked everywhere for that knocking sound and couldn't pinpoint it. Sounds like someone thumping the air box. It does do it mostly when hot so I'm guessing rubber mounted and as it gets warm the rubber gets softer.

Thanks for your post. ;D

Mine does it too, and it goes away when the clutch is in. I'm only home for two weeks every four months though so I never find the time to take it in to get checked out. Seems like the bike makes alot more vibration while riding after it started also.

My 06 le white does the same ****.. has done it sence break in and i have 1200+ miles on it now... deal told me its normal.. I even had there head tech come out and listen and he said some make this noise.. the later busa's that is. I have the 5 year warrenty so im not gonna worry about it... I think its even harder to here with exhaust so thats my next mod... btw 180mph is fun
