lowering=poor handling?

when i first got my busa i had them install fully adjustable lowering links and asked them to lower the seat height 1"... dont know how far that lowered the bike because i need the seat height down cause i got short legs... I had ridden the bike for a week while i waited for the lowering links to come in and after they lowered just the rear, it felt like i was plowing through the corners. After i bought reaper risers and lowered the front, the handling was much much better. my .02 is lower the front and rear at the same time cause it will affect the handling if you dont.

i'm thinkin' of lowering just the front.

Put it this way:

I have about 1/8" of chicken strip left on a Dunlop Qualifier with 1" lowered in front and 1 1/2" lowered in rear, and I've only been riding a motorcycle in my LIFE for less than six months.

I think it handles okay.

P.S.- Just put a Tobin seat on which puts me closer to the ground, so I am raising the rear back to stock height. Short guys version of a +1 conversion to help cornering.

Quote- i saw someone mention just raising the rear and i know a few ppl do this but again this will change your wheelbase and not only that it will change your fork angles.... it might feel like you can turn better but imo it just turns diff due to the diff angles of the forks, and wheelbase diff....the engineers at zuk took all this into acount and got the best possible setup, unless your at the track or are really small, dont change the ride hight.
if you want better handling go for ohlins....
just my 2c

Don't be so impressed with the Suzuki engineers to assume they set the Busa up for maximum cornering ability- they didn't.

so.......if i just lower the front and leave the back stock , will it net the same effect as going +1 in the rear (ie. handel better)?

Yup. Only difference is less clearance on the bottom of the front fairing.

If I ever get mine leaned over so far it scrapes there, I will NEVER fix it because I will be bragging about it from then on!

The change will be similar with the exception that you will lose ground clearance. Raising links for the rear are less expensive than a new top triple clamp and eaiser to install as well. If you want do adjust the height if the bike for looks do what ever make you happy, but if you wish to improve the rate the bike turns in when cornering then you are getter off going up 1' in the rear than lowering the front. A 180/55 tire help speed turn in. Stiffer fork springs are a huge improvement.

You need a top triple clamp.
Others on the board will steer you in the right direction.

I think she still gets around the corners nice...........2" lower front and back.  Hard parts may scrape, but that only adds character.

Making pun fun I see?

nice riding hbr!
if you dont mind me saying so, if you were able to hang your body off a little more you would be able to reduce some of that lean angle and help stop the scraping.

Thanks Speed. Jeans = keeping my knees up

An accidental knee drag w/o pucks hurts like a MOFO

haha i wouldnt know what it would feel like w/o a puck nor would i wanna find out! but i would imagine it would hurt a lot.

I bought adjustable threaded stainless links in the rear so I could adjust up or down. I went 1 " down in frt and 2" in rear and havent noticed much of any change. Ride quality didnt change. but Im sure that lowering does over all affect " leanability" look at any GP bike, The rear end is way ,way up. the more weight you tilt towards the front wheel the more ability the tire has to dig and actually respond to what its being told to do. Ever drive a pick up with a full load, The back dips down and the front comes up and it no longer sters for s@#t. Just my 2cent. and heres what 1" and 2" looks like if it helps

The bike lifts up out of a corner with less effort at stock height than lowered, flicks back & forth easier.just depends on what you want.

Tell your husband to ditch the Harley... buy a Busa... drop it down a couple inches... get some risers... and have the time of his llife. I have been riding harleys most of my life. And living the "life" as well. When I bought my Busa I figured, "Okay, I will make a statement to my kids. I don't want them to grow up thinking that Harleys are the only way to go, neither do I want them going thru life the way I did... the "biker" way (big diff between a biker and a motorcycle rider)." When I took my Busa out for the first time (maiden voyage home) I could not believe my @$$, my eyes, my ears, my gut... or any other part of my body that was talking to me. I have never ridden a bike that is as stable and responsive as my Hayabusa! Geez, I will never own another Harley again... pay twice as much... to perform three times the maintenance... to gain less stability... to have poor handling... not to mention the absolute thrill I get from riding now. Never, ever, again.

To proud dad...
Your prayers are heard and more are going up! My oldest son (infantry) has been to Iraq twice (18 months with the 1st Armored, and 12 months with the 4th ID). Now my youngest just enlisted in the Army as well. He'll be a helicopter flight mechanic. My oldest got back last Nov (2nd time), and is going back in a few short months. My youngest is trying hard to get over there. It very well could be that both my boys could be in the action by Dec of this year.
