Made an offer on a 2003 Busa yesterday

Just to stick my two cents in.

Break in on the Busa is 5K rpm. This is over 90mph. in sixth.

Suzuki recommends that you break the bike in before swapping exhausts. The dealership I worked for (in FL) would sell exhausts at time of sale & In stall them at your 1st service N/C at 600 miles.

Even if you (or your husband) are going to do all your own service & maintainence work I highly recommend you get your 1st service done by an authorized dealer. Just say something breaks in month 13 or 14. When you try to get it covered by Suzuki the 1st thing they ask is about that 1st service. If not done, no "good will" warranty. Also on that 1st service they go over your ENTIRE bike this to catch anything that may have worked loose with the bikes 1st extended use.

Good luck!!!

VaBusa, Roseburg (Oregon) Cycle Center is advertising '03 'Busas in Cycle Trader for $9499, OTD.  They charge license & document fees.  The telephone # is: 541-672-6065.

Medford (Oregon) Power Sports is quoting (for the '03 Busa) $9599 OTD, + lic. & doc. fees.  The telephone # is: 541-826-9148.  (Doc fee is typically $50 - $100)

Beaudry Motorsports in Post Falls, Idaho is advertising a leftover 2002 Busa for $9199.  They do charge freight & setup, don't know how much.  They have a toll-free #: 800-735-2407

There's a reason I'm giving you these figures....a few years back, I bought a Ducati 900 SS/SP from Delano Sports Center in Minnesota.  I saved $1499 on that deal (over the best I could do with local dealers) ....even after I paid for shipping to Oregon.  Most dealers will readily ship bikes to any where in the continental US, it's no big thing.

Even if you don't wind up buying out of state...the threat of doing so is a POWERFUL negotiating tool.

Good hunting, and good luck!

Va, I would have to concur with RaiderDM, I just got my bolt-ons installed with my first service. Also about the mapping, my guy told me that Suzuki says unless you are making a 30 or more horsepower increase, the stock ECU can handle mods without remapping... But opinions are like eyebrows, everybody has one or two...

I'll certainly keep that in mind; keep the bolt ons for after the break in period/first service. I'm trying to learn what I can about maintenance, but I'll be depending on my local Suzuki dealer for maintenance (unless you guys know "others" that work on them?)

Great prices listed in this thread. It at the very least gives me some prices to use in my bargaining!

I didn't get to call anyone tonight...hubby's car limped home, so he was busy working on that while I played with kids...tomorrow night perhaps, then I'll let you guys know what deals I've found, if any...

Raider - how in the hell do you guys break them in if that's what Suzuki recommends?! I live in the country...not many places to run around at 90 mph for long, and I don't know if I can do that anyway...got a learning curve going from the Harley to the Busa...I'm up for the challenge, but not right out the door! Ughhhh!

I think he meant you should not exceed 5k RPM during initial break-in. I don't think he meant that you had to keep it at 5k...

Thanks for clearing that up Bullet!  I was beginning to think I was way out of my league with this bike on just the break in!

(pulling out the dumb blonde card AGAIN)...

VA.....you might want to make a list of all accessories you are interested in (not modifications like exhausts...but accessories). The cost will astonish you. I added $1,000 to my budget for accessories...I'm eating thru it quickly.

Shoei Helmet with clear and tinted sheilds ($250.00)

Tank Bra ($35.00) or Mag Knight Tank Protector ($60+)

A good summer riding jacket (Joe Rocket Phoenix...130.00)

A good heavy leather jacket (Vanson/Joe rocket....$350.00 and up)

Pit bull stand or other stand for lifting back end for maintenance ($89 to $159)
Tank bag for storage for longer trips...($70 to 150)

Leave yourself a little room for goodies!!! Plus that 600 mile check up will set you back about $150.00....oh and insurance.

Do a BUDGET!!! And my suggestion to you.....make your phone calls and then deal quickly . You are putting way too much time into this. You have a husband and kids, life is too too precious to spend days trying to pry another few bucks out of the deal. Get the bike at the best price with the least amount of hassles (delivery, travel....etc...) I once bought a car and got two or three quotes very close to my target range
$200.00..... I spent a whole week trying to do better...I did....$100 better and countless hours....it WAS NOT WORTH IT. Get the bike and ride. And hug those kids NOW

Oh and I almost forgot....I spent $250 dollars on an ABUS Extreme Lock/Chain. The only way someone steals my bike is to bring an acetylene Torch because it would be difficult to cut this thing with bolt cutters. Plus I spent about $60.00 to install a hardened steel u-bolt (made by Bike Anchor) in the floor of my garage to attach the lock and chain to.

Just something to consider....don't want to put all this money and time in and then see someone steal your bike.

babuski -

Thanks for the list...many of those items I have (my riding gear), but nothing like the tank bra, or locks for the bike...those are good things to consider bargaining for.

Just talked to my Dad last night about theft of Busas...he's got a friend that just bought one; it was stolen 3 days later from a parking lot...definitely can't afford to have it stolen, so I'll need a lock/chain...

I don't have money in hand at this moment, so that's why I'm taking my time and looking around for a bargain. Don't worry, once the money's here, I won't be bargaining long! I'm way too impatient!

Speaking of insurance - hubby just got another speeding ticket this morning on the way to work, so my original insurance quote is no good...

I'll be doing more than shopping around for the good deal on a Busa...need to make some calls on insurance as well...

Thanks for the advice - I'm learning tons from you guys!

VA.....hubby got a speeding ticket? Thats ok...the busa "idles" at 90mph so I'm sure it won't be long before you match his speeding ticket.

As for bike security....a good insurance policy with a decent deductible should help ease concerns. I am relatively frugal but sometimes go on spending sprees and when I bought the busa, I had to shop. I had to make up for 20 years of frugality, 20 years of buying used cars, 20 years of spending so little.....it felt wonderful.

In the end, if someone wants your bike bad enough, no lock and chain will be sufficient...they will get it. I can't imagine leaving my bike in a parking lot without my being able to keep an eye on it. I drove my busa to a physical therapy office the other day for a 2 hour appointment. The office had a parking space right in front of it and had a large window with a receptionist. I told the receptionist I'd pay him to keep an eye on my baby. (I also told him if it was missing i'd make oatmeal out of his privates). Worked like a charm. Don't let the bike out of your site and I hope you have a garage.

We do have a garage of sorts (filled with bikes and smaller items; no cars!), but it's always unlocked...guess I'll be asking the hubby to lock it up!

Yep...speeding ticket...he's probably had 30 in his life...I'm not kidding!  This guy can't ever take my Busa out or he'll be in big trouble!  ("You got a 150 in a 65?!")

Glad you didn't have to "make oatmeal" out of that receptionists privates!  That could have been ugly!  I won't be leaving my Busa out of sight much, but I guess I'll have to rule out riding to see a movie and leaving it in the parking lot!  Think I can buy it a ticket in?!

Bought my 2003 from Max Pitts in Peru IN (they have a web site). Drove from St louis to get it. $9299.00 No hassles, no problems. He worked OFF THIS PRICE on a trade for my 2001 GSXR 1000. Nobody else in this area could come close. Talk with Aaron, he is the owner.

Good deal Mike...I'm sure I'll find something in my comfort zone! Then, start saving for the mods, right?!

I'm leaning toward a new one...I love the silver/grey, and I'm not much on the 40th (no offense guys)...
I just bought the latest Cycle Trader mag, but didn't find much I'm interested in...

I always buy used cars...guess I'd like to splurge on the new bike!
Thanks for the info though...

Update for those that gave me info...
Charlottesville is out of Busas! Guy told me he'll call around and see if he can find me one, so I'll call him back...
Chicago - kept me on hold way too long for my 1 year old to not fuss, so I hung up...call back
Mass - no 03's at the moment, a couple of 01's, but only one of those was something the dealer could guarantee was a good bike (not wrecked)

That's all I had time to do tonight with the kids running around! More attempts tomorrow!

Yeah, thats what I meant. I only mentioned it because you were worried about riding it home from the dealership. Just wanted you to know that you can ride it the legal limit right from the get go. You should try to vary the RPMs though.

Once Again, good luck!

Jeez, You guys are paranoid. I ride my Busa to work, leave if it in a parking garage for 8-10 hrs a day. I take it to the mall, shopping, movies...everywhere. Don't even bring a lock. If they want it they'll get it. Ain't no point in having her if I'm only gonna stare at her in the garage at home. Buy one, ride one like YOU stole it!!!
