More ZX-12 Dyno Results

As promised I am updating you on the ZX-12 I have been Dyno testing. It now has 500 km's
(300 miles) on it. The customer supplied some V.P. 112 octane fuel on Saturday and it was not as good as Shell pump 92 octane premium.
At any rate, the bike is now showing 174 H.P. with 91 ftlb of torque. The Busa still has better 2-4 thou. rpm numbers but from there the 12 takes off. I experimented with Ramming some air into the front profile of the bike(shoving air directly into the air box has never worked for me on any bike), and it gained 7 H.P. from 8000 to redline.
I have sent a black box to F.I.M. in Auzzie land for testing and tweaking. It will take a couple of weeks to get it back and they always improve things.

Just to touch on the subject of dealers test riding bikes, it is Ontario Law that all vehicles be tested prior to delivery to ensure safe operation of all components.

All of our bikes we at Brampton Cycle get delivered with 7 kms on them. In fact BMW bikes come from the crate with the odometer rolled back on them for just such reason. I won't name the manufacturers, but the warranty would be void if the customer insists on no test ride.

Don't be so anal people, if you don't trust your dealer, find one you can.

Thanks for the valuable info jeff. I agree on the testride as well.

When the "black box" is sent out, what will be done to it?When the bike is fully broken in,how much more horsepower do you think will be realized? Does the owner of the bike plan on taking the 12 to the strip where trap speed will show off it's horsepower??

Its the same dyno that DP's bike was ran on last week and it was anything but happy. This is the dyno that gave pete the 154 figures. This is the guy that pete asked to join us here. You dont like those numbers one bit, do you nick?

Those numbers sound about right if they're off the crank! Kawasaki claims 175.5 hp at the crank. Conveniently a half hp more than Suzuki claim for the Bus. I think Kawi's
been blowing a little too much smoke.

Half second a bit harder to get,
especially, since the additional hp can't
be used at the start, with street tire,
and no lowering or strapping. It's hard
enough to keep from standing up, or
smoking tire, with 160 +/_ hp. Mph would
show difference in hp.,better. Also,
would need to look at usable hp curve, in
relation to rpm drop between gears used.
"Average" hp. is what gets it in
acceleration, short distance.

This was discussed extensively on the mailing list back on Nov 15 when the Gadson prototype run was made. Some memorable quotes from one of the most recognized sources in the business:

"In all fairness... a stock Hayabusa, with a qualified rider... ran 9.53-seconds. The average "joe" goes into the 9.80's easily.. so the bikes are very comparable.

And from one of our regular posters:

"Well we all know that Rickey's ZX12 had a hand made exhaust from Muzzy and
the bike was remapped and tuned by Muzzy. Now in all fairness what if Yosh did this to a 1300. To run a 9.52 on Rickey's ZX12 is really great but like you said,a stock hayabusa ran a 9.53"

Hey, I don't really care if it winds up faster. That is why there is an aftermarket to make stock vehicles faster and better. I didn't leave my Mustang stock for long and I don't plan to leave my Bus stock for long.

Todd things have changed since November. A manufacturer's top speed limiting initiative and likely ZX12R re-gearing and/or 6th gear rev limiter. Reliable third party dyno tests. Production delays for what purpose we don't know.

Also, nobody's taken a stock Busa to 9.53. And sorry Ricky but the average Joe does not go in the 9.80s. Not on a stock Busa at least.

The average and honest Joe goes 10.3 to 10.5. Maybe. Accomplished magazine journalists run 9.9 to 10.3. The odd dragger may have gone to 9.8 or so.

Now how's that for a switcheroo Todd? Me being the voice of reason and you being the lunatic. :)

I agree with C.dolan. I have a stock busa and my buddy has a 1360 with 190hp. We went to the quarter mile track the same day.
I was faster throught the 1/8th and he barely beat me through the 1/4th by .3 seconds. I ran 140 and he ran 150mph. He couldnt keep the front down. To add insult to injury I should have had .3 sec. better 60ft. but my first time at the track on this bike made this difficult. The guy on the 1360 has been dragging bikes for about 8 years so I doubt it was driver error.
Those are impressive numbers for the 12 and should make it a handful for the busa when doing roll-ons on the street where most street races occur.

Hehe Dp - that is a switch. Well I'm just the messenger and wasn't present or told much about the 9.53 pass on the stock Hayabusa. I suggest you take up your case with Marty at Dragbike.com who knows more about it.

Also - there was a post last MAY that talked about a 9.53 run on a stock Busa that was only strapped down. I don't know if this is the same run that Marty referred to 6 months later or not. Marty simply stated "stock".

I have the luck of living in the same town as one of the best streetbike drag racers in the United States. Michael Phillips, there are a few others in that company also but I don't see them as much. Michael goes 10.15 at 136 on a showroon zx-9. With gearing and the front strapped 9.94. Piped, jetted, geared...9.81. His 60 ft time is in the high 150's or 1.60.
On my R-1 strapped and piped and jetted he went 10.20 at 142. The R-1 is difficult in first and second gear. His short time was only 1.69. The bike made 145 h.p. so he never had a great pass. I went 10.33 at 137 and I way 225lbs. So, the R-1 is a easy 9 second bike with a swing arm.

On a bone stock Hayabusa...9.79 at 146, strapped down he went 9.53 at 146 or 147. His short time on the lowered bike is 1.53...very good. Only Keith Dennis, and Brock Davidson get that kind of short time, but they have the clutch modification done.
Michael says he leaves at 1500 rpm, and can keep the clutch from really grabbing hard.

Michael Phillips is on the order of a Rickey Gadson. Both are extremely good drag racers, so a 9.53 with Michael riding is not out of the realm of possibilities.

There you have it! Once again Todd is right! That is the good thing about Todd, he is always right. And if anyone questions him he will find a farcical post that “provesâ€￾ them wrong. Why? Because Todd gets a little unbalanced when it comes to his motorcycle.

Hello, I am an "average Joe" and I can run 9.8s all day on my stock (lowered&geared) Busa. At some tracks. Shreveport for example. I ran a 9.75@145mph last year in August. It was hot as could be. I can usually run 9.8s all day, as I said above. But go to Memphis, and it's a different story. I ran at the IDBA World Finals in October, last year. The best time I ran all weekend was 9.92. I only ran in the 9s three times all weekend. My 60ft. times are usually 1.62/1.66.
I think you guys worry to much about which bike tested fastest at some magazine more than you need to. I guess it is fun to jab at each other, kinda like the Ford and Chevy guys do. But come on guys, Some of you seem outright resentful of the fact some ZX-12 in Canada has 174 RWHP. SO what. It doesn't make my Busa any less of a bike than it was the day I bought it. ZX-12? BRING IT ON!

So you can walk Chris Dolan even tho' he has bars and a slick and has been dragging his whole "adult" life.

Post yer 9.8 slip on labusas, Busadan.

I don't give a **** about CDolan or whatever you said. And anyway, all I have to post are pornographic pics of your mother . I do not need to prove anything to you DP. I ran my 9.75,you dickwad, in front of a crowd at Shreveport, not on some lame posting site. Be a Shreveport in April and I will kick your *** and Cdolan's if he can't run any faster than you say. BE THERE
