Mrs.Lycan NOW wants to ride sport?

I'd suggest talking to Chris, NCBusa2001 (I think thats his handle), his wife isnt 5' and she rides a katana 600 with a customized seat. She has no problems with it, rides great and can sit flat footed with her riding boots on

GSXR as Paul mentions is very aggressive, possibly more than she'd be ready for coming from an 883. The Katana is sporty, handles nicely, has sufficient power to ride anywhere and keeps you in the suzuki line

oh yeah, you can probably pick up a used 600 or 750 for pretty dang cheap which would make it a great sport bike to learn on

Angel my wife is 5'3" with extra short legs and cannot reach the ground on damn near anything, she sat on 99's lowered Bus and was struggling with it.  She has a Buell Blast and fits fine, your wife likes the HD's try an XB9...
Angel,

I'm not EXTRA SHORT....thanks Dave! However, he is correct in saying that I tried 99's....you were there. I was flat on the right side, but tip toed on the left. He wasn't there so how would he know!

Since the bash, I've decided that I need to get some miles on the Blast. I don't mind being a passenger, but I think I would be less nervous riding on my own. I haven't ridden in 5 years. The Blast won't last forever..... I'll need something better before I know it. However, when I do finalyy make the purchase, I will be tossing the idea of either the Katana or something similiar to it.

Everyone else is right though. She needs to sit on a few before making the purchase!

My opinion, because I went through this with my last g/f of 2 years. Her bike is a SV650. I lowered it 1" in the triple and 1" with dog bones. Yes, taking the padding out of the seat will help. Once she got better at handling the bike I slowly raised it to get back the road cornering clearance she was missing, since she was getting better with the bike. I moded the kick stand so the bike would lean over better. Never had a problem. Hope this helps!

Okay, As a female who is 5'2 and started with a Suzuki Boulevard M50 (cruiser)800cc which I only had for 6 months, I jumped up to a Busa. It is lowered 3 inches front and back with a customized seat. Why does everyone say to get a 600, it is too light and easier to jump up on you. Why don't you take her to the bike dealership and let her get on as many bikes as she wants and let her decide because she will know what is the most comfortable for her cause that is the key. I am so glad that my best friend made me get on so many bikes and he would hold them up while I sat on them with my feet on the pegs and I will tell you that the Busa fit me perfectly. Hopefully she picks a suzuki but it all depends what she is comfortable on. Good luck on your search and one more thing, the transition from a cruiser to a sport was very smooth for me and if she has been riding then it will be for her too.

Thanks DD, we have already done the drill at the dealerships and she knows the difference in riding position and what not, her transition will not be a hard one, I think I have said several times she is NO rookie to riding, the reason she was thinking a Gix 600 is becuase she doesn't feel she needs the power of a 1000 or a Busa, she knew how light my Yam was and she is really intrigued at being able to really roll on a lighter bike and really be able to ride sport, so... all the advice helps ESPECAILLY from the ladies!

WOW!!!!!! I can not Believe that so many people wanted to give advice on this subject!!! Thank All of you for your words of wisdom and direction.

I obviously don't have as much free time as Mr. Lycan does to check, and post ho, so when I pulled up the org this morning I was a little overwhelmed. (It looks like Mr. Lycan needs some more chores if you ask me!!!)

Thanks again to EVERYONE!!!! I am going to have to think it over a little, but it seems like the Suzuki GSX-R 600 or 750 sounds like a plan.

Than by Spring Bash 2011, I should be ready for the Busa, if I do some more leg streching exercises. (hey that sounds like a good chore for Mr. Lycan!)
