My 2011 Coast to Coast Round trip plan (Under 5 days)

Curious if you've crunched any numbers to see what you are up against.

When I'm in my truck driving 75-80mph it takes about 3 hours to go 200 miles (figure in speed limits, traffic, etc.). You're doing 5,730 miles according to your map in 5 days. That's 1,146 miles/day. Using my rate of travel you are looking at just under 18 hour days in the saddle. Granted there will be times where you will go "slightly" above the speed limit:laugh: but even still, you're looking at 16 hour days at least. That's a lot of saddle time with little sleep for 5 long days and they will be long considering fatigue.

Not trying to question your manhood but looking at it from a safety perspective, it just doesn't seem to be.

Again though, best of luck to you. Just don't overextend your body and hurt or kill yourself for the sake of trying to prove someone wrong.

The only thing I havent taken into consideration right now is traffic because I dont know where, when and for how long I will hit it.

Im pretty confident in my ability to stay alert and safe during extreme moments of fatigue. Im a bit of an insomniac as it is really... I will realistically need only 6 hours of sleep a day which is generous with my current sleeping habbits.

Insomnia sucks...unless you use it to your advantage. Strangely enough, i have found that my body reacts differently than normal in odd situations. For example, caffeine helps me sleep and I get more focused the longer I am awake. I do some of my best work in my 25th+ hours of being awake...

New tires before you start! Look at Pashnit's website, he's got alot of things that will come in handy on the side of the road, like for a flat tire, and good luggage. And what condition are your brake pads in?
Get a cruise control or at least a throttle lock. If for no other reason having your speed set will help to save you, from zoning out and speeding when you don't want to. It might save you a ticket, and it lets you relax a little too.
Good luck:beerchug:

Im hoping to have a 2011 busa by the time i make this trip, but if not, ill overhaul my current one.

When I start getting everything together (shortly after christmas) i will be documenting everything I purchase and plan on using for the trip from bike mods to personal luggage.

Planning on documenting everything, making documentary style videos as well as others.

I know I want a throttle lock, my corbin seat, maybe a gel pad on top of that. Im going to take a bunch of those icyhot back stickers, and my friend was even talking about getting a camel bag, lol

Hadnt thought about tire repair, thats a great idea. I will make sure i remember that.

I've driven a Tractor Trailer all over the country (could never make it on a bike...unless it was a Goldwing:laugh:) So all I can say is, you don't have a moment to spare on that trip. I'm not trying to compare truck time to bike time, but simply if you make time somewhere, chances are you're gonna lose it elsewhere. Either from traffic, or crowded gas stations/travelstops.
Go for it, just hustle!

Those camel bags are awesome, and if you're tryin to make as few stops as possible, it's a great idea. Especially when you ride through the desert.

Good luck on your trip. Ive done the cross country trip on my Gen1 busa. Hell of a ride. I wouldnt even try and fathom the trip in 5 days.
