My Mustang...

Hmm, it wont let me attach my photo. Anyways, it is an 06 Daytona Charger R/T. 350 HP stock with 4 doors for the kids. 0 - 60 in 5 seconds.

Keep it cheaper to upgrade then to buy new, I just put a 454 big block in to my 98 Tahoe that had a 350 small block and love it. For you why not look around for some dumb kid that spent all his money on his stang then wrecked it (hit pole, tree) pull drivetrain and drop it in your car! I have seen hot wrecked 5.0 go cheap.

You can't post a pic because you were bashing Mustangs and talking smack about eating 'em for lunch

No, I want my little Mustang...the Chargers are nice, but I'm not a fan of a 4 door...convertible gets the kids in just a quickly

Yeah, we talked about that option as well last night...I might be able to pick up a slightly used engine from a Cobra or get a newer 5.0 from a GT, add a few extras...

Good idea...just weighing the different options and I love hearing what others have done, how much it cost, etc...thanks...

One more thing with all the upgrades dont forget new high vol fuel pump (wal-240) and hot wire kit for the pump, never want to run lean!!!

Whoa there, no need to talk to me like that! LOL

Umm, this is where I'm clueless about cars and what to buy for what reason...I just drive 'em

The Newer GTs are so much better in every way, that I cannot imagine NOT buying a new one. Find Yourself a brand New GT or a slightly used one and start tweaking it...

I drove the new one, a CS/GT and it was SO much better than the last mustang I drove. It rode properly, didn't wallow around, and steered pretty much where I pointed it. I was really impressed.

I can certainly understand being attached to a vehicle, I am struggling a lot with selling Lilah. So this is to a certain extent tough talk.

Now, when it comes to buying new and having a payment I always hesitate, but work it out carefully, make you have a number within your budget then bite the bullet. Even though the RX doesn't suite me 100% and I am looking at get something different it is hard to argue with the security and fun of driving something brand new/near new and healthy. It make you feel good, and there is a certain piece of mind involved.

Trade in Ole' reliable, get a New GT You know you want one and they really are that much better. Dropping any money into a car that's worth about $4K is just kinda silly. Your talking about crate motor in a car that has iffy driving lights and a Window thats outta whack? When American cars reach a certain point, you know as well as I that they become one niggle after another until the needed money for repairs is more than the car is worth.

Anyway, This is what I drove but in Blue, and it was a huge hoot. The Tranny is SO MUCH better, the handling was on par with any modern sporty car, and the Interior is much much better.

The only thing that was still wonky and silly is the FREAKING MONSTER of an E-Brake handle and the HUGE pull it needs to do it's job. Thing looks like it's out of an F150 or something. How Ford could think that it's an OK design is beyond me. Seat belts are also WAY WAY back there it's a pretty good reach from the front seat.

Otherwise, 300 HP with more easily had. PLUS MUCH IMPROVED SAFETY AND Stability help.

Seriously though, Get an RX8. Twice the Handling, Power that will not get you in trouble, an interior 10X better fitted and thought out than the Stang, and will simply run rings around it out in the world.

Not to mention, 5 star safety and your little ones will love the back seat. It's a real sports car. Big Fun...

But crappy gas mileage. The only reason I am gettin rid of mine is the headroom, or lack of for me with the Sunroof.

Mazda just extended the warranty out for 5 years and 100k miles as well.

As much of a fan as I am of those new GTs Rev, I just don't want one over my '95...I can't explain it...it's the first true sports car "just for the fun and hell of it" purchase I'd ever made, bought at a time in my life when I was certain that years of infertility would leave me without kids, so why not live it up? Imagine my surprise and relief when I found I could squeeze not just one, but two car seats in the back of the Mustang! It's just a car I didn't want to give up when the kids came along and it's taken me everywhere I want to go...

Mike's attached to his '65 Mustang, and for good reason...I think I feel like he does; sure there are better built cars out there, better looking even, but there's something to be said about maintaining a car that you just love and that is yours...I've been wrestling with this for a long time now, just wondering what I'll do when the time comes, and I'm really leaning toward keeping her. It's going to come down to the simple fact that the car owes me nothing, I don't ever expect to get anything for it, so why not just keep it and keep her up? As for the little "glitches" in her? All just small things; the running lights are likely shorted out and I've just been too lazy to fix 'em, the mechanism for the window is 12 years old and just needs to be adjusted...it's all usual wear and tear from a car that I drive as much as I can, so not necessarily "old car defects", just normal wear...

Believe me, I love the new ones, but I honestly think I want to keep my old one and someone else can have that car payment!
biggrin.gif
I don't intend to finance any of these upgrades when the time comes, just feeling out what things might cost and how to go about it...

Now, why don't you go get that new Stang and tell me all about it!
smile.gif

And, the RX8 isn't a convertible!!! I must be able to put that top down! Tons of head room here Rev!

(VaBusa @ Jan. 10 2007,12:21)
(BigBSBusa @ Jan. 10 2007,13:02) Nothing wrong with putting money into something that you love and enjoy!  There are still plenty of '95 Stangs at car shows (even stock ones).  If its not your daily driver then you have all the time in the world to get stuff done, but if it is getting something newer might be the better option.  All kinds of restoration that can be done to update it just figure out the reasons for doing it.
Ken, it is my daily driver...kind of why I love it so much...tote the kids here and there, grocery getter, BUT, we have 3 cars (well 2 since the Miata rollover), so when one's out of commission, there's usually a stand by and not too much of a rush to get that 3rd back on the road.  I could feasibly pull the Mustang off the road for improvements and upgrades for months and not worry too much, aside from missing her
sad.gif

Only reason for the upgrades would be simply because I want to keep the car...not much more I can say
biggrin.gif
Didn't remember it was your daily driver since you only ever talk about Caesar!
biggrin.gif
I think you've already made up your mind. If the newer Stangs aren't your thing don't get one. Keep what you've got and fix it up the way you want to. Of course this is coming from someone who hasn't had a vehicle for more than 4 years!

I have been this route on every Mustang I have every owned. They do tend to be a money pit though lol....

My last 5.0 had a stock bottom end topped with Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads. I used a Motorsport F303 cam, 30lb injectors, 77mm Pro-M mass air meter, 70mm Accufab throttle body. Full length headers, h-pipe, 2.5" exhaust.

Now the real fun...2 stages of nitrous courtesy of Nitrous Express. I was running 125hp on each stage. I used a MSD 6AL box with a multi step retard.

Full system: 190lph pump

The tranny was a World Class T-5 with a short throw shifter.

Rear gears were 3.73, suspension was drag/street racing based. Eibach Pro Launch kit, 90/10 front struts, 50/50 rear shocks, Weight Jacker upper/lower control arms.

The car WAS a blast to drive but being solely set hp for racing, the suspension sucked for any cornering activities.

IF I was doing another build up on a convertable 5.0, I would be looking for a Balance so to speak: Power, Handling and drivability.

With the miles currently on your car, you are in need of a rebuild or a shortblock assy to make some HP.

DSS make some really affordable shortblock assemblies that will accomplish your needs. Top one off with a set of AFR heads, intake, throttle body and mass air meter and an honest 300 rwhp will be there: all the time all day driveable.

To get into the 400hp+ range, some power adder must be added and will add mucho $$$$$$ to the rebuild.

For the heavy convertable, I suggest 3.73 gears as a bare minimum.

A rebuild on the tranny will work now. Add an adjustable clutch cable and you will be fine there.

Suzupension: turn to Eibach for the springs. Add some performance shocks, 17" or 18" rims and tires and you are set.

Total cost?

Depends on how much work will be done by Mike and yourself.

This will give new life into your tired pony and you will have a blast driving it!

Michelle, the best advise I could give is drive a NEW Mustang and then decide if you still LOVE your 95.  If you do then by all means spend the dough and make her all you want.  But if for one instance somewhere in your mind you happen to think "I could get use to this", then pony up and buy the NEW Stang.

There's nothing worse than throwing away $$$ into a car that doesn't deserve it, I should know, been there lots of times.

Anyways, here's the wifes 05...................Now you tell me.

Michelle, you can do a forged 306 for prolly near $1500 in parts,a nitrous kit is cheap:2-4 hundred bucks,OR a supercharger used 13 to 15 hundred bucks.Stand by,I'll have a Vortec S-trim for sale soon,306 with this super charger will put you over 500hp to the tires. If you decide to keep it,I'll help fix it up and she'll be force to be reckoned with.

(BA BUSA @ Jan. 10 2007,23:48) What $10 GRAND in upgrades and then ya still have 12 year old car
crazy.gif
I got an 89 GT with over that in the engine, building a 89 coupe now....Paid $2200 for the block (only),spent near $12,000 in parts now and still counting, but it WILL put down around 800hp to the tires with the supercharger,
beerchug.gif
when I go turbo,I will be lookin for 1200-1300hp.Both cars are near mint inside & out,all accessories work, can be driven anywhere. No car payment...Fast car....I love Mustangs!

Do you by chance have a Vortec to fit a 2001 Bullitt...

Wow, vman, NJ, Devious...tons of great info...wish I understood it all! LOL I'm seriously lacking in my shop talk, but the hubby would understand it all and have more to toss in...

Looks like I've got a ton of options here, just need to work on which one is most affordable and feasible...NJ, sounds to me like you've got drag racing Mustangs there, and as much as I'd love that, I think it would kill my daily drivability, hence I need to lean toward the things I want from the car (remember, I am having a blast with it as is, it can only get better) and still maintain a vehicle that I can drive everyday, kick some butt when I get the chance
laugh.gif

I love the sound of a super charger, so that's kind of the route I'd like to go...shouldn't be any problem if it's a daily driver, right? I'm not looking to be the next speed racer every where I go, but I would love to hear that super charger kick in every now and again...I'd even turn the stereo down for that one
