My new car

six speed never came in any "car" till 03 in fords lineup. unless the had one in the trucks it wasnt a ford spec 6-speed.

and to not say it was never done isnt in my ford vocab, they have done alot of goofy things over the years, but a 6-speed never lived in a mustang till 03 oem anyway. and has never resided in a gt till 2011.

there were a few years badged "cobra". but they werent the svt cobra we think of today. that didnt come till 93, but i dont believe they even made a badged car in 87 cobra anyway.

Like I mentioned in my post,,maybe it was a 5,,,it wasnt a 4 speed,,that I know,,and the 2 wrecked cobra's he used to turn the LX converable into a cobra useing their trans out of one,,motor and rea[ that he spooled ] out of the other,,and of course the ground effects,,,,I dont know what years they were,,,,I bought it in 98,,,,,,,,,I prefer chevy;s ,,,but when he smoked me in the 1/4 ,,I did want to buy it,,,I did get him out of the hole,,but when I was waiting for 2nd gegar to change[ vacum,,slow shift in the modulator in that thing], he blew past me and I was then just a little spec in his rear view mirror,,,,I know my buddy in the service in the mid 90"s was waiting on a 6 spped to be shipped to him in a new T/A,,,,,,,so,,,maybe it was a 5spd,,,,in the mustang,,and he did have cobra GT ground effects all the way around it and it { clearing engraved on it] wasnt a SVT,,,but as I stated,,that was 98 when I bought the car and that was the year that he put it together,,,,,,,,,,,Beings your a ford man,,I like them to0,,I liked the body stly of the 70 mustang I had,,,,,and I;d love to have a 1964 thunderbolt 427 twin cam motor,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,{4 spd of course

It's hard to tell with your typing but as ridgeway stated they didn't make Cobra's again in the US until '93 under SVT (rated at 235hp). Unless it was a Canadian car they did some odd things up there as he already said with the badging. You can't call it a Cobra if it's a clone or fake since they don't make Cobra GT gound effects. :poke: To many of those out there so people with real Cobra's can get upset...

Had to be a 5-speed unless it was a Viper spec swap (not likely with that power level).....don't forget the 2000 Cobra "R" got the first 6-speed in a Mustang. Then it carried over to the 03+ Cobra's as the first production (non-race) vehicle... ;)

well i did some research and for clarity,,I made a phone call to a buddy who used to ride in that ford,,,but first,,,my humble apologize:whistle:
I was correct in a few things and as for gotbusa's comment,,I do suck as a typist,, but as a gentleman you both corrected me in a repectfull way,,,but Wisdom is achieved this way,,,,,,,,but I am pretty good with a wrench, but suck on the keyboard,,ive bought and sold so many hotrods and builds in the past,,and I'm a motor head so I shouldve remembered,,,,
The car was a 1987 LX convertible,,,,he had 2 wrecked mustangs that were H.O
one of them was a GT and that was what he turned it into,,,He took the ground effects and the 5 spd T-5 and put it in behind a H.O { stamped on topof the V-8 } which resebled a 302,,small block F.I He took a rearend out of one of the highperformance ones,,we both remembered this, and he spooled the rear,,,The only other high performance car that was wrecked and robbed of parts to make the buid,,I dont know what it was,,,probually another GT,,that kind of comes to mind,,,,,but this is one last piece of the car that I cant figure,,,I remember the engine Haveing H,O stamped on top or it,,But I dont remember seeing the C.I.D stamped on it,,,It looked like a 302,,and I remember the H.P rating being said to be 270, but the specs on an 87 GT is only 225@4000rpm ,, The 93 cobra R was 235 and the 93 GT was the same,,but in 98 a machI of 305 HP was out ,,I think what I read stated that the 302 in that year in the mach I,was bumped up to a 351 tho,,,, but I read 2day that the 94 cobra was a 240 HP,,,,,They had a 93 SVT and a 84 SVO . Well maybe after 12 years ,,it was a 235HO 302 but 270 keeps entering my mind,,but I can find nothing,,,,,But as for the build,,,,the upper portion of this post is accurate,,,,,,,thanks for the info fellas ,,,

I have the very first Cobra Mustang. lol.I put the emblem on years ago cause I thought it would be cool. I get tired of people asking if its a Cobra so last year I pulled it off.I didnt heat it and it pulled the paint off so I had to put it back on and I m stuck with it until the next repaint which should be in the next few because this one is about 15 years old.

I don't want to get to technical with it all cause I could go for days on my old HotRod trivia... ...but you seem like a car guy so heres a little Ford knowledge for ya...

H.O. stood for High Output which had a few little tweeks to the engine like roller lifters/cam, forged pistons, etc. but it still only made 225hp from '87-'92.

Maybe the 271hp you are talking about is the "Hi-Po" (K-code) package from the 60's which didn't come on any of the '80s fox-body cars... ;)

In preparation for the SN-95 chassis they underrated the '93 Mustang at only 205hp (Cobra 235hp and "R" 100 built) but it still made the same power as previous years. Some say the reason was because of the changes to fit it in the SN-95 chassis and it was only rated at 215hp for '94 (Cobra was 240hp), they didn't want the new model making less power than the old. So that was there idea even though not much changed on the '93 model engine other than cast pistons instead of forged, etc.. :(

The '84 SVO was a completely different Mustang with many changes (biggest was a TURBO 4-cylinder). The SVO team is what eventually evolved to create SVE and SVT (Special Vehicle Team).

'95 was the last year of the 5.0L 302ci engine (Cobra R got the 5.8L, 351ci rated at 300hp only 250 built) and the day of the Modular motor arrived for the Mustang in '96 4.6L, 281ci. The GT had the SOHC engine rated at 225hp. The Cobra got the DOHC engine rated at 305hp which had a LOT of changes besides just the engine. Brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, tranny, gauges, hood, etc..etc...ALL were different on the Cobra from the beginning.

'99 got the P.I. heads which bumperd power to 260hp on the GT. The Cobra was suppose to make 320hp but they never quite dynoed what Ford claimed so they made some changes. No Cobra's were made in the US for '00 other than the Cobra R which had a 5.4L, 330ci DOHC engine rated at 385hp (300 built). The '01 Cobra had a few updates but they quit production early (no 2002 Cobra) to get ready for what has now been called the Terminator '03-'04 Supercharged Cobra (underrated at 390hp). Essentially the old Cobra motor (non-supercharged) was released that year and labeled as the Mach I '03-'04.

There are a few other differences but I could go on for days explaining so that's the basics from on old Ford racer... :beerchug:

96-98 cobra's also had aluminum teksid block...

i believe the fox's forged pistons stopped at 86....

and the 02 cobra was like the 10 busa, none in conus.... they had ugly jobbed in fog lights in the bumper.

cobras all 99+ are iron block 4.6, mach1 was a two year model, 03-04, had the 03-04 cobra heads, with a newly designed iron block, they were scared to put in the termi, they now sell as the aluminator.

now they make the shelby gt500/cobra, whole nother topic.

I really don't want to buy another Mustang but the new aluminum block '11 GT500 sure sounds nice...

Heh! As of last Dec. my new car! After deciding not to go with the Tundra we shopped around and liked what Toyota had to offer in way of interest rates, warranty and incentives. 180k or 8 years parts and labour, free oil changes for 7 years and so on.

For performance and aesthetics I really liked the a Mazda 3 2.5 hatch back but they couldn't even come close to offering what Toyota was so, here she is!
