My Stock Pipe Mod

I did this mod a while back like a year ago, and I too have had 2 of those braces break. I do believe the vibrations caused this. No worries though, Brock's CT system is here and ready to go!

I did this about a month ago. Love the sound difference. You can actually tell that the bike is on now. I used a sawz-all and lobbed off the end of the pipe. Wasn't to bad. I tried just cutting the first one using only a dremel and a hacksaw. Yeah after 30 minutes of the hacksaw, I went and bought the sawz-all.

I did this mod last winter and have had no problems with the mod. I love the looks of it and when I did it I weighed the scrap that I cut of and each half weighed 5.5 pounds so lost 11 pounds doing this mod.

i went the different route and made mine rivetless.

I recently cut mine, but went an easier route. The rivets, threaded rods, and drilling holes is all good, but alot of extra work. I measured and cut mine in half(11" gone), 1 cut per muffler with a reciprocating saw. Looking into the open cut end of the muffler it's about 2 1/2" deep, then a solid wall making the first (and now only) chamber. It has about a 1 1/2" diameter pipe exiting the bottm of it, this pipe is flush with the open cut end. If you look into the now replaced end cap, you can see the top of it, but because everythings black now, it's hardly noticeable.
I grinded the spot welds off the end cap screws and removed them. My friend welded the chrome caps back onto the open cut ends. One short bead on the inside of the cap, and a couple of tacks where they aren't really visible. He also filled and smoothed where the screws holes in the caps were. Then sprayed the whole mufflers, chrome cap too, with hi temp flat black. The mufflers are now 1 chamber instead of three and have a nice sound. They are not excessive, just a smooth tone.
I also removed the front chrome covers from the midpipes and cut off the brackets for them. My convertor was gutted a while back too, making a barely noticeable change in sound. The leftover scrap from the mufflers weighed 11.5 lbs on the scale.
If you or a friend can weld, this is quick and easy sound with a little weight loss, and I(we in this thread) think it looks alot better. Thanks everyone for a great idea!
It's raining here, so I'll post the pics tommorrow. I'll try to get a good short video for a sound clip too, just for an idea, as with any exhaust, you must hear it in person.
Free fix until I can afford a good full system.

i did pretty much the same thing but used 4 threaded rods because i didn't have access to a welder. :beerchug: you definitely have better resources.

Mine are the same size and look like yours aside from color. Yours look good with the chrome on that orange:thumbsup:

Someone should do mine.. I want a louder exhaust. and im saving up for a turbo so I dont wanna spent a crap ton of cash on a system im just gonna take back off.. Ide rather pay someone to cut my pipes like those for now till turbo.. so if anyone is interested in doing it between Nov-Mar. please let me know and come up with a price..

If you have a reciprocating saw and a welder, or know someone who does, it's a quick simple job. 1 saw cut per muffler, and a few small welds. We'de do it for free, but we're too far away. A local weld/fab shop should be able to do it very cheap. The cut in the muffler is 4" behind the hanger bracket, or really where ever you like the look of it. The welds are on the inside where they are least visible, or again, where ever you want them.
There are gaps around the end cap on everyones too, since the muffler tapers smaller as it gets closer to the midpipe.
If you want the catalytic convertor gutted too, it's a pain. Not really hard, but takes a little while to completely remove. A weld shop may try to hit you in the head for that.

I took a air hammer to the inside of the muffler and cut out the inside so you can see thru the muffler with it off..will it be to loud now if i cut down the muffler?

It's still raining, but here's a few pics of how they turned out. The paint is good too, it's just road grime from the rain.

If you mean that whole wall, yeah, it'll be louder. But I didn't re-use the end of the pipe either, just the end cap itself. If you have the end welded on, it'll be alot quieter.
One of the posts here shows the end cut off, and the center of it pushed out(the part with the 3 prongs with the threaded holes for the end cap screws)
I just held those ends over my cut pipes before any thing was welded, and it sounded stock.
I've seen many sets of stock pipes free on here too. You could try and get another set if it concerns you that much.
