New Bike

I'd say it's as capable at least in handling. I had a guy chase me on a great twisty road on one and he hung right in there. It looked like he almost dragged bags lol.
Those big wide bars and torque (I think it's in the 90s...?) would make it a formidable bike.

Even my Bandit would surprise a few bikes for the same reasons.

I bought a new (to me) bike last week!!!!
Here it is, and it's a Suzuki (naturally!) DL650A V-Strom, 2014 model.
I've been looking for the right one so I can commute cheaper (price of gas is still 10 bucks a gallon here) to work each day, and, as a bonus, I get to ride INSTEAD of driving my car. (boring....but warm lol)
I found this for sale in a city 320 miles away, so I bought it and paid a trucking company NZD$300 to get it to me at the workshop I'm at every day. A dollar a mile is not bad, would've cost more for me to go get it with a trailer on my car.
I went out today for a 150km ride, it was a cold day, heated grips and screen protection is a beautiful thing!

You are gathering quite a collection...those V-Stroms are a stellar bike...my buddy bought a 1k but traded it for a 650 as he found the 1k too heavy for what he wanted to do with it.
I looked at the 1000 V Strom, cost more and heavier, thirstier, not as agile, the 650 has a great balance of everything I like in a bike.
Lots of extras… the full stainless Yoshi system, givi racks and top box, givi screen and hugger, heated grips, led daytime running lamps, Scott oiler chain lube system, adventure tyres, side protection bars, pretty awesome!
I love it, gonna ride it every opportunity I can.

Nice littke Wee-Strom there! Those things have an almost cult-like following (and decent aftermarket too) here in the US!
There seem to be lots of them here too...I know a guy who had one with over 200,000kms on it and he rode it like he stole it most times...and he's a really big man to start with...he's got a BMW RT1250 now...but still has the Strom with a dragon sticker on it in his garage...

Yeah, the motors are bulletproof . . . nah, more like stinger missile proof lmao.
They handle like a dream, turn in is so neutral and so easy. Brakes are ok, v twine engine braking helps too.
They weigh 220kg wet, pretty heavy, but it feels light when riding it.
If you get a chance to ride one, do it. You will be hooked!

Someday I hope to own another GW. I had a 1984 Aspencade.
I would get the DTC model as I have 3 other bikes if I want to clutch it.
Not wild about the 2023 colors so will wait a year or 2 before I make the leap.
Never had a bike with reverse - I think that would come in handy at times.
I know they increased the trunk size - would like to see the side case increase some too.

My neighbour has the 1000. He’s getting on in years and we have a lot of dirt roads and forest fire trails around here. He was mentioned getting a 650 instead.

I don’t doubt the 6 might suit him better but I’d love to get a deal on his 1000. I’ve owned several SV650, both first and second Gen, and ridden a few DL’s. The bigger DL’s can be a bit of a handful and thirsty but personally I find them way better on the road and less challenging dirt.

I just love big bikes. It’s not sensible or practical but it makes me grin.
