New Digs

Beautiful! I still want to get a cruiser, but can't justify losing the garage space
The foot control placement and seating position threw me for a loop when I test rode a Vulcan 2000...like being on a bike for the first time again! LOL

I’ve been riding over 30 years. I swear I’m learning to ride for the 1st time. Foot placement, shift rpm ( still think I’m on the Busa ) , blinker controls and on each side instead of one unit. The biggest problem I have that I noticed is that the Harley will go into a death slappy if you let go of the controls. I need to look into a stabilizer for certain.

I can imagine...I tried to ride several forward control bikes but there was no way I could and feel comfortable...I guess I spent to many years riding in a specific manner to change.

But, at least you now know why many HD riders don't wave.....they are scared of letting go of the handlebar for fear of ending up in the ditch...

I think the handlebar instability comes partially from the bat wing fairings HD uses...they aren't very aerodynamic and are heavy...that's a lot of weight to be placed where it is...

It's funny u bring up the shift rpm and thinking your still on the busa and the feeling like your learning to ride all over again . I've got a buddies little sportster 1200 in my shop right now for some work and we also have a victory hammer that belongs to a friend of my business partner and we ended up taking them out for a couple rides while checking even over and breaking in the clutch (with permission of course). And it was kind of funny because I ride the bus and partner had a gixxer 750 that he'll take some nice highway curves at 150+ on and him trying to turn that victory made him look and feel like he'd never ride before and we were both banging them off the rev limiter thinking we were still on the suzukis:laugh:. Be sure to check over the stem bearing, the current harley tech I work with told me they they almost all seem to come loose early on and the best he could figure is just because of them being loosely torqued on the line and then wearing in which adds to the death wobble. Enjoy that big comfy couch sir I know I sure would.

I will get it apart soon to start checking that out. Must get a proper jack however as the pitbull Busa stands won’t do the trick lol

Given the gravity of that issue I would not take it for granted as a Harley feature but I would inspect everything. Do you have a gauge of what your dealer's technicians are like?

The couple of techs I met seemed to take their work very personally. That said, they are replacing the tires as they are plum wore out and I have ordered a steering damper to install as well. I am going to ask if the steering head bearings were checked as part of the 30k service they just performed.

I had thought of posting that pit stands may not work for this bike and was going to ask if you had a medium-sized industrial crane. You have taken excessive abuse from others though so it would not be fair for me to pile on. So I will not ask.

Congrats on the new cycle! Sad to hear the busa had to though :(
Some time ago when I still had my gen 1 and before I had my gen 2, my gen 1 was down for some time for reasons I can't remember. Well my father n law had a Fatboy that scared him so he picked it up for 5 years or so. One day my mother n law said I could buy it but I told her money was tight. She said I could pay whatever whenever so after 3 minutes of thinking I agreed. On the maiden voyage the front brake disc started to glow red hot. That was the first in a long list of problems but most have been sorted. I remember when I first got my Hayabusa I would say to myself there is no way I would get a harley. They really aren't bad bikes but I'm not a Harley fan boy. As I've gotten older (and more injuries) the cruiser riding position has grown on me. I added lowers, bags, stereo, windscreen and speakers. I love the Hayabusa though and can't see going without one, never thought I'd sell my gen 1 either, boy do I miss it.
