Whats up everyone! New to this site and bikes as well. Just hoping some of you guys/girls could help me out here. I come from a LONG background of racing (cars) and have sold everything. Im done with it, too much damn down time and money and just plain bored. Ive never really ridin a bike before but my friend let me cruise a little on his stock busa. Long story short i fell in love with it. Im 6'7" and to start out on a 600 doesnt work to well. Im looking at buying a 08 busa, am i getting in over my head? Speed and power is nothing new to me but it is on a bike. Im not looking to do anything crazy, i would prob just cruise around for a long time to get to know the bike. Thanks in advance to any help!

Ahh holy hell, i should of read some of the other posts for beginners here. lol sorry guys, should have known better. It just sucks being so tall and everyone tells you to start with a small bike.

well with enough restraint, you could go with this as a first bike... it can get you in a lot of trouble really fast is all..

yeah, no doubt on that. The one i took out was an 07 and i just farted around. Its funny because of all the years of racing/building i never really cared for bikes until i got on one. Now i cant stop thinkin about it!!! Would it be wise to take a saftey course before or after i get it?

WELCOME TO THE ORG! I've only had my Busa for a couple of months, but have had a 250cc and a 600cc before. the Busa is a beast yeah, but she is very tame if you respect her. It is very easy(for me) to cruise on her.

In many areas of the country there are MSF classes that provide bikes to learn on and get your MC endorsement. I would look into that for sure. If you are mature and can learn to ride the busa at a slow pace you may be ok. True the busa can be very tame, but it can bite you real fast too. Would hate to see anyone get hurt bad. Others have got a busa for a first bike with no problems, but I would consider it real hard before buying one. There are other bikes better to learn on that would be good for a bigger guy like an SV650 or a 600 Katana. Glad to have you on the org. Let us know what you do.

Thanks for the help! Do these bikes corner (normal speeds) decent? In other words is it gonna be tough for a new rider? Sorry for all the questions, im just really excited. ALOT of people are pissed off at me for doing this but its time for a change. I cant wait to be a part of your group on here! take care

Good deal, yea thats the plan.  Ive had a couple low 9 high 8 second cars and i can remember having a 11 second car ready to jump to that. Glad i didnt.  Whats some of the best gear to get( jackets, pants etc..)? Mainly for safety, confort. Thanks again!

Your size does make it difficult to get something smaller. Like others have said take it easy on that right wrist! MSF course is the best way to start, some parking lot work and don't get near a group of stunters or riders of smaller bikes. Welcome!

Welcome to the oRg! Asking a motorcycle enthusiast about what is the best gear is like asking a mechanic what the best brand of tools are!

Dont worry, just get something that is well made, preferable has armor or padding in it. Leather is always better than cloth, but pricey. As a racer, you know what safety equipment can add up to. Check our sponsors for gear, new enough, or cycle gear, last case, ebay will have things too. The busa is a very strong bike, low end torque and lots of hp up top. If you just take your time, respect the right wrist, you should be fine. Take the MSF safety course, get your license and take your time. Dont ride with others that you feel you have to keep up with. Owning a busa will get you in trouble if you let it. Ride YOUR ride and be concsious of your speed, speed is deceptive on these bikes. I also suggest you read the pinned topics at the top of this forum, a lot of your questions will be answered there. If you dont find what you are looking for, ask away, we are here to help. Again, welcome, and I hope you consider staying no matter what bike you choose to purchase.

Same boat man. 6'6" i bought a 750 becasue of all those you'll shoot your eye out Busa haters. A month later I was trading in something I was uncomfortable sitting on.
Go with your heart and when you get it use your brain. Put the break in miles cruising and you will have it down in no time.

Some really smart people have done it.

Seeing you rode one already, you are hooked on the

Just always remember the weakest part on the Busa is located just above the gas tank, it connects the seat to the throttle.

My philosophy is, if you start with a bike that's too big, you won't be able to learn on it quite as fast. I know what you mean about being too tall for most bikes, however. Go sit on an SV650, though, and see how you fit.

You've been in racing so if you do decide to buy a Busa, you may be okay because you KNOW what excess power can do to you if you don't manage it intelligently!

Plus you sound like you're old enough to no longer be suffering from testosterone poisoning but still, the rush can getcha!

Take the MSF course. Good idea.

When you buy the bike, get full gear. You'll be glad you did.

Take it easy out there. Yesterday, I was on a ride with a bunch of friends and just as we were pulling away from a stop sign, a little old lady in a huge land yacht went around us going the other way. As she went by, I pointed at her and told my buds, "That's what you have to watch out for the most when you're riding."

Ain't that the truth?!!!!

Most of all, have fun!

Cool, you guys have been extremely helpful. I cant thank you guys enough! I run a machine shop here in PA, so if you guys ever need anything made shoot me a pm! Thanks again guys

Also with the 08, remember you can downgrade the power somewhat with the selectable mapping switch. Set it to the lowest setting (C mode), every time you ride until you become more comfortable. Remember, it resets to A mode every time you shut off the bike. Welcome to the ORG!

to the board...nothing i can add to what has already been said except have a good time and don't ride so fast that you leave your brain behind
