Hello All, I recently picked up a 2002 Busa and have been digging through all the old posts getting info as needed. I appreciated all the DIY and info that the members have posted. Since I got it home and doing a full inspection, I have found the previous owner was not very mechanically inclined. I have found lots of missing panel screws and clips. Loose bolts and misadjusted linkages and levers. I dont know how he could have ridden it without feeling something wasnt right. Anyways getting it all sorted out over this past week, hope to get it out on the road tomorrow.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I am in OC. Costa Mesa, near the fairgrounds. I will post up a pic when I get it off the phone. I should have taken more pics of it when I got it, to document everything that was wrong and I was going to change. But I just got it on my stands and started tearing into her. Finished up almost all my maintenance other than plugs and adjusting the chain. All other fluids have been drained, flushed and topped off. After I bought it, the PO told me he was running car oil in it and said he hasnt had a problem with the clutch slipping. :sarcasm: So that was on the top of my list. He also used so much chain lube, that it packed up inside the sprocket cover and got behind the seal on the clutch slave cylinder. That was leaking down the kickstand it was so bad. She is now ready to ride, but Mother Nature decided today was not going to be the first ride.
Hope to run across a few other Busa members when I do get out.

You are a little south of me, I am near Bakersfield. Again, welcome. Now post a picture!

Lots of blemishes in the Plastidip. And I wanted to see the condition of the fairings and paint underneath. So I decided to strip her white off.

The original owner I was told painted it black. Doesnt look to have used and clearcoat over the paint. And it has a semigloss sheen to it.
The guy I got it from said he left in the garage one night and he thinks the gas leaked out and ate up the black paint. thats why he sprayed it white.

So I am currently looking at vinyl wrapping it to make it my own style on the cheap. I will create a new thread at that point with my progress as it happens.

Then I decided to dust off my old helmet and get it ready to test ride the bike tomorrow. Was wiping it off and could figure where all the little bits of dirt were coming from.
Closer inspection, and found the top pad in my helmet degraded so much it was falling out. Then I couldnt remember when the last time I wore it was. I have been riding my dual sport for the last 7 years.

Time for a new helmet. Oh and my old racing boots, well I have replaced the zippers on them enough times. I think they are also in need of replacement too. Safety first.

How does she run?

I will let you know tomorrow. I was cleaning the chain and getting ready to adjust the huge amount of slack out of the chain, then realized I didnt have a 36mm socket at home. So I grabbed it from my bos at the shop this morning. Adjusting it tonight and hopefully get out for a decent shake down ride tomorrow.
