new rattle

Well I went for my initial service last friday and it was running good. Saturday I went ahead and removed the reflectors and bumbed up the idle to 1100 (they had it a hair under 1k). Then when I started it up, I noticed a faint rattle. It appears to be coming from somewhere towards the front (engine, under the gas tank). I figured I dropped a screw when taking off the rear reflectors, but I am pretty sure that's not the case. It don't hear the noise when accelerating, but I definetely hear it when giving it some gas in first or neutral and then lay off the gas. I've popped the tank and checked around, but I see nothnig obvious. I also check the oil level which is at the low line indictor.

Any ideas???

I'll give the dealer a call tomorrow as well.

Check and make sure all those little black push pins are in place, make sure one didn’t pop off and fall into something.

Does it sound like a metallic rattle? plastic rattle?

And don’t take this wrong, just have to ask to make sure I know everything, are they any voices associated with the rattle in your head uh ehem I mean in your bike?

Make sure all bolts and screws are tight. You might just have something loose and moving around a bit after taking it in for service

thrash-- metallic sound. I checked all visible bolts and push pins all fastened and tight. I'm hoping it's in my head, but those boogiemen sure sound real

Besides the throttle and reflectors, the only thing I did differently from before the 1st service was I brought it up to 8k RPM now that I got over the 5500 hurdle.

Windscreen vibration?......... Though that doesn't sound metalic, but from the day I left the dealer new until I replaced the screen it vibrated and made noise. Had a new screen on order so I didn't bother trying to fix it, but was annoying as all h#ll. After replacing with the new screen, vibration gone.

Just a thought.

nope popped  off the windscreen and still heard it. Although hard to pinpoint, it is coming from somewhere under the tank.

Under the tank? hmm I am no where near my Busa so I cant look, but are there any hoses, hoses clips etc that could have got moved just enough to rattle against the tank or the tpo of the engine?

paulos, you had me optimistic for a moment. I rattle is present with the bike stationary. Stay tuned-- I'll report back later today once I go tot the dealer.

I have a feeling they are going to side with the boogieman hypothesis.

ok matey i set it to track topic, when u find out wats up just send a mail mate.hope they sort it out for u:)

Update:

I drove it down to the dealer. The first guy listened and couldn't hear a thing after 5 minutes (I could). I got frustrated and asked him what kind of bike he owned, to which he replied a "Harley." I responded by asking for someone who wasn't deafened by excessive bike noise...

Mechanic #2 came out and said he could hear "something" but everything sounded "normal" I told him to take it for a short spin, wind up the the rpms in 1st or 2nd to 5k and then let off the throttle. He did and said he heard the rattle. He then said it sounded like the cam chain.

The rest of the story unfolds almost identical to this past thread:

In short, they said it's between rachets and will do away once ity clicks. Classified normal, go home.

my ole ears hate engine rattles-- this one better clear up before it drives me crazy
