hello all,
i'm new to the forum but have had my 99 for several months. the thing is its been in the shop more than it' been on the road.

1. i replaced the fuel pump but still having the same issues when bike gets hot, so whats next/
2. the ecu went out is ther such thing as "reflash"? i already got a new to me one but if i can still us the old one i'd like to hold on to it.
3. how do i find out if my bike went in for the recall that was done for the 99 model?
4. what is the purpose of my secondary battery?

thanks

What exactly are the issues when it gets hot?
Your nearest dealer should be able to check the serial number and tell if it went in for the recall.
The second battery may have been added to help the sometimes hard starting when hot.
(If it was installed correctly)
If the old ECU is bad it isn't worth saving. What is the problem with it?

thanks for the quick responses... after i've riden for some time, shut it off, it takes about 30 mins to start back up..(that is if i don't crank it right back up)

:welcome::welcome:

sounds a lot like a vapor lock issue... sort of hard to tell without more info... a fuel pressure check would be helpful...

if the bike seems to start and run fine when cold, and then wont start after it is hot.. could be the fuel is boiling in the fuel lines.. after it sits for the half hour, the heat goes away, the fuel quits boiling and then restarts.. will be fine until the next time the fuel line heat soaks..

You might be able to hear a difference in the sound of the fuel pump between the cold start and the hot start..

that sounds like exactly whats happening. how do i fix this?
need to diagnose the problem first.. a fuel pressure check should show the problem.. Also , I have heard that kinked fuel lines are not all that uncommon on the external fuel pump bikes, this could contribute to the issue..

can you hear a difference in the pump warm/cold?

what is the correct installation for the secondary battery?

I agree on the vapor lock.
Someone (previous owner) had the same problem and probably wired the second battery to give JUST THE STARTER - 24 volts on startup.
Here are 2 of many ways to do that:

there doesn't seem to be a difference with the fuel pump (hot or cold). what should the fuel pressure be and i will give it a once over in the morning as well as the secondary battery wiring. thanks all for the help. i'll keep everyone posted.

ohh almost forgot... my ecu.. it will be getting replaced in a few days. do i need to remap my pcIII and dyno my bike after it's done?
