New Toy DPMS Panther 308

No jacking at all. good info for me as well and always love to talk guns. I can shoot but not an expert on tech info.

Wow...guns & ammo 101 for me. All I know is I have a Glock 23 .40cal , I take it to the range and shoot it...clean it...repeat cycle and all I have to do is buy the same .40cal ammo for it. So the ammunition these weapons can use is bit confusing to me. Thanks fellas!
Sorry for the thread jack Skywalker.

Acog model TA11E is one you want for that gun.
Dont really need a 'scope' as you will be limiting yourself and the gun.
3.5x35 is what the Acog is with graduated red chevron reticle.
No prob hitting mansize targets at range and very accurate within 300.
It is pricey but will last longer than the gun and can be kept and or used on other
.308/7.62 rifles as it is calibrated for .30 caliber.

Some .223 guns will fire 5.56 fine. A lot of semi autos will and here is a lil bit why the chmaber pressure are usually rated so diff. But for all accuracy sakes use the round intended.

I am very well aware of this...but I value my person and the people around me...just like a HOT round with a handgun, a 5.56 NATO going through a .233 stamped rifle can explode the unit. Considering the firing positions...I wouldnt want this event to happen. Remember 1 time is 1 too many...to me its like putting a round peg in a square hole

The bad thing with Wikipedia...anyone can post info on there, with little or no research or background in the subject...Im far from the expert, but I learn from the best and will start shooting for Team Glock this spring. Bottom line: I would never let anyone shoot 5.56 NATO through a .223 rifle...or 7.62. NATO through .308.

Fun Shooting!

Wiki is the easiest for me to find on the blackberry. I got an older black gun book that talks about this.

Baiscally what it boils down to is the variants that are built to spec 223 for varmit and target accuracy for that round. Most ranch type varmiters that but the rifle will never buy a nato round but the gun would handle it. I've personally shot hundreds of rounds through my mini 14 of 556. Not trying to argue just throwing some light on what I've learned. Kinda like +p. The better the gun the more safe it is. Don't think I'm gonna throw some +p+ in a jennings or hi point. Know what I mean lol.

Here's a quote from what your posted and its good info and dead on. This is all I was getting at. Some are built for both even though stamped for one.

Also one thing the link I posted mentions the wylde chamber which a lot of ar variants use today.

It is our understanding that commercially available AR15’s and M16’s – although some are stamped 5.56
Rem on the receiver – are manufactured with .223 chambers. Our advice however should be that
it is the customer’s responsibility to know what their firearm is chambered for and choose their ammo
accordingly.

Btw. No real reason for the discussion either no reason to fire a 556 out of a 223 gun other than just burning ammo. No gains other than by the projectile itself. Less accuracy and lil more recoil. Only reason I did it was I had some 556 that got exposed and had some slight case corrosion. Figured I'd burn it off before it went the way of the wind. And it was before I had my first ar as well.

So like you said bro. Have fun shooting.

hope I didnt come off like I was splitting hairs...I was just shining some light on the 5.56 V .223 and 7.62 V .308 comparisons. Ive seen the malfunctions and been to the funeral.

dont get these confused...
a 5.56 NATO will shoot a .233 but a .223 stamped rifle will not shoot a 5.56 NATO...

a 7.62 NATO will shoot a .308 but a .308 will not shoot a 7.62 NATO

All NATO rounds are a higher pressure and a tad bigger than the rounds they are commonly compared with

Great units though! Happy Shooting!:beerchug:
Ive been talking with a dealer here in Iowa on a DPMS LR-308 SASS for a week now...great price but I think I may build a better unit for less money:thumbsup:

Not trying to start an argument, but .308 should not be fired in a rifle chambered for 7.62 NATO. However a .308 can run either round without a problem. .308 is loaded to a much higher pressure. Wouldn't want anybody to have their "toy" go KABOOM

I was taught to give my guns a girls name ?

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Tonight, you pukes will sleep with your rifles. You will give your rifle a girl's name because this is the only thing you people are going to get.

You're married to this piece. This weapon of iron and wood. And you will be faithful. Port, hut!
[Recruits grabs their rifles]
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Prepare to mount!
[Recruits step back towards their bunks]
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Mount!
[Recruits quickly hop onto their bunks]
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Port, hut!
[Recruits grabs their rifles and holds them up]
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Pray!

my fav part
Recruits: [chanting] This is my rifle. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Order, hut!
[Recruits puts the guns at their sides]
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: At ease! Good night, ladies.
Recruits: Good night, sir!
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: [to the watchman] Hit it, sweetheart.
