Imports have the highest resale value...because they last longer and are better made. So, unless you're looking for desiel, go with Toyota.
However, recently on CNNMoney there was an article about the best domestic cars that Americans aren't buying. The Dodge Ram 1500 was on it with the improvements made in the 2008/2009 models. Drive them and do research on Consumer Reports or a comparable impartial source. Car make preferences are like religion, very personal and you'll never make a Chevy lover out of a Ford Man.
Personally, I was raised in a Ford family and taught from infancy that they are the best. My daughter has 1994 Explorer with 120K+ miles and mechanically sound. I've never driven a GM product that wasn't a POS. Dan and I have been driving Jeep & Dodge for the past 16 years with few mechanical problems.
