In 2005 I also had the 1999 R6, that was my first sportbike with bracelets, what a shock !
This was my 3rd bike (CB500, Yamaha FZ6) and the engine was great, the high revs were absolutely fantastic...but the engine broke like many other R6 of this generation. I heard saying that it was a Nikasil treatment that was not good enough.

My first bike was a 2005 R6. I put 88,000 miles on it in 4.5 years. Only had to change the voltage regulator. Also ran about 20 tanks of nitrous through it with a 40hp shot.

Not really surprised, the worst engine was the carb model, I did change the gearbox too, the 2nd gear was defective at high rpm

I got lucky on that bike big time! The chain was a factory defect and snapped around 400 miles taking out the engine case. The techs rebuilt it with new cases and I thought it wouldn't last. Guess those were some of the best techs around because I put that engine through hell and back!

I had a GS 1150 ES, bought it new in Arizona, loved that thing at the time it was my DD Should never have sold it, a great bike I added a yosh pipe and a lower faring to it
