Oil change help please

To just change oil, no.  But to change the oil filter, yes.  And you want to change the filter too

Just remove the right side fairing.

Yes - the right side - its easy - there are 2 push pins in the front wheel area where the side fairing meets the nose piece - push in the center and pull them out.

remove the allen head bolt that hold the fairing on - swing the fairing out from the bottom being careful not to scratch the nose piece with the 2 tabs that stick out of the side fairing.

You can now drain the oil and replace the filter - the suzuki filter wrench is cheap and makes it very easy to twist off and on -

Replace the fairing in reverse sequench

A trick I read here and use each time. Take some tape (I use duct tape, and put it on loosely) and run it along the lower edge of nose cone before reinstalling the side fairing. It will stop any scratches when you miss the tabs going back under nose cone. The little bit of residue is a lot easier to wipe off then a scratch!

By the way, this board rocks for tech info.!

wrap some tin foil around the headers, under the oil filter, to keep the oil off them... learned that here...gotta love this site

Yes, do this or plastic wrap if the engine isn't too warm, but foil is best. Put a filter with the nut on the end like K&N it will make like easier putting it on and taking it off next time.

Be sure to not overtighten the oil pan drain plug. Best to use a torque wrench. Don't get too wild if you do it by touch.

OK, most people put 1 gallon of oil in and a new filter. If a gallon won't fit, should I turn the engine over and then try again?
