We both have point and shoots. Mine is a 9mp Sony that absulty sucks. hers is a 5.2mp olympois(sp) it does ok. I had a real nice 10mp point and shoot that took great pics but someone else wanted it more then I did.. She has hinted to the SLR cams for some time. And to be honest she really puts up with a lot from me lol.. She left her jpb as a police officer to stay at home and raise our son. Only the money impact was pretty harsh. So she stared to watch other peoples kids for some extra scrach, now she makes more thne she did as a cop lol.. But that being said, she goes out of her way to help others and treats me real good. I just want to give her something real special that i know she will love..

Thats it, I'm done.  All the the shots were taken with A higher end $360 point and shoot on auto and all were downsized, the largest can be 3648 x 2736 and smallest 640 x 480, has postcard and widescreen. It has macro mode, stitch, video, specials and you can adjust the ISO and shutter speeds, you can get additional lens - zoom, wide, macro etc etc etc and a whole bunch of other modes and things I'll never touch, meaning don't go buying $1000 worth of base camera (unless your really going to use it all) when only $200 of it is used.  And as Mr Bogus hinted, to suggest brands or makes may start a tire debate. good luck
