Peg Mod (Buell XB Pegs on Busa)

Hey everyone! I'm the guy who posted on this mod on SH.org (that's my bike in the pic's) I'm 6'6" and this mod worked out great! I got the idea while at the local Ducati/Buell shop. I had been loking for pegs that would give me some much needed leg room when I happend across a Buell XB12S. I noticed the pegs were set back/low quite a bit and I thought "that's what I need". After measuring the peg and comparing to my Busa's peg (I actually took a peg off of my Busa to compare at the shop) I thought "with minimal tweaking this should work". So I purchased a pair and I was off to my garage. The rest you've already read in the linked post. I did, however, find out the hard way that they scrape MUCH sooner than stock pegs (I removed the huge peg feelers before I ever put the pegs on). The pegs themselves don't actually scrape, my size 14's do. I've remidied this by raising the rear of the bike 1" (via shorter dogbones) and keeping the balls of my feet on the pegs while hiting the twisties. I know for dragging and top speed runs higher is not what you want, but I ride more twisties than I do top end so it's not a problem (plus the bike turns in WAY quicker now!) I very glad to see so many people have benifited from this simple mod.

Very cool mod dude. I'm 6'5 and it's the best thing I've done to the bike yet....so much better.

I found that General Motors door hinge bushings work real well with this modification.  They are a perfect fit on the pegs and a slightly loose fit for the pins, but peg movement is not a constant thing and there is no excessive play in the pegs.  As a plus, these bushings are bronze and should outlast plastic ones. They are readily available at any auto parts store.

I ground the top and bottom of the portion of the peg that fits into the bike's mount until they just fit with the bushings in place (the upper one inserted down from outside the top of the peg and the lower one inserted down from inside the peg).  Then I used a fine stone and finally an air-powered die grinder with a 3M aluminum surfacing disc to arrive at a glass-smooth finish with no visible grinding marks.  I could have shortened the lower bushings 1/8" or so, but doing so wouldn't have improved their fit or function, so I didn't bother.

I already was riding with the thick rubber pads removed from the stock pegs, so the improvement was less drastic than it will be for someone who still has the rubbers in place.  But it is a great mod!

I have had mine on order thru Destination Harley/Buell in Portland for a few weeks now. I can't wait until they come. They might conflict with the centerstand on my '03 Busa. If they do, I'll post it for those with similiar concerns. I can't wait to get them in!!

BTW.. I just checked and they are in... just in time for Sturgis. I wasn't able to find the $14 per piece items. I paid $55 for the pair.. which is still a smoking deal in my book.

My pair were $27.10 with 6% Pennsylvania sales tax. You MUST have gotten a different peg.

Rumblephish - did you get the pegs that are partn No. N0006.1AD? I just ordered a set which should come in tomorrow, and I was wondering if they need the same .470 adjustment as the others listed here? If thats what you got, what did you have to do to get them to fit right? Any info would be appreciated!

Got it in today, and I can see why I paid what I did. When I asked for a PAIR of XB12 pegs, they took it literally. They sent me a PAIR, as in two front left and two front right N0006.1AD.

My mommie told me, if you ain't got nothin' nice to say, don't say nuttin'. I never listed to her anyway. What a bunch of idiots!

But then again, I guess I have to acknowledge that I did knowingly pay $51.20 for a set of pegs.

Anyone want to buy my newly aquired space Buell pegs?

you guys noticed that it does change the maximum lean angles of the bike?

I finally got mine on and got it ride it thru one of my local fav twistie places and was dragging pegs probably twice as much as normal..

not that big uh deal.. I figure it will just grind off to the point that they don't touch anymore... and besides it's only when I'm really getting into a curve anyways.

this is with the "curb feelers" removed.. had I not done that I think they would have literally been dragging 90% of the time in the twisties.

Very nice mod, I looked at the LP peg's and like the idea of them too, which one to do, 2 very good choices.

bigjohn141, I just called LP last night and they said they do not make the v360k for the Hayabusa anymore, which one did you order? If you have recieved it how does it fit? Want to get that peg.

I tried to get those pegs over a year ago and couldn't find any. I did an Internet search for "motorcycle accessories", which gave me several pages of vendors selling such things - nobody had any left, even L-P.

The Buell pegs work great, though.

I'm going down to the local Harley Dealrship to get some XB-12 pegs, will they fit right on the bike or some sort of mod needed?

amazing the amount of people that read the first post, then skip the rest to ask their questions.. hehe

try this thread it gives all the specifics.

pure_ego not sure where your going with this, but I read every post on this thread, when I read revlis post I though he was talking about the xb9s being off, didn't see anything saying the 12s also need modification. Did you read something different, do the 12s also need modification? I'm not sure which ones you ended up purchasing either could not tell by the box made in Taiwan. But it does sound like the 9s do need some modification I can only hope the 12s do not.

I'm going to show that photo to my coworker Mr. Harley made in America motorcycle man.
