Radar mount

looking for personal experience, which is better a stem mount system or mount to the windshield

The wind screen mounts I have seen point the detector downward and look odd to me. I have used a stem mount for several years without any issues. You can just pull the mount out by hand when not using it (convenient) and, of course, it can be used for GPS, MP3 player, cell phone, etc. It is highly adjustable. Ignore the white circle in my picture showing the offset of HeliBars.

You can also get a stem stand like mine above with twin platforms for mounting 2 components side by side.

Stem Stands

I just ordered a single from Radarbusters.com, I will probably regret not getting the twin pad, but oh well, at least I will have the single.

thanks much

Hey PsychoZ
I have a stem mount also the Bel Rx65 and a H.A.R.D system . this is a great setup, I have the single mount .its nice the only problem I see is its kinda pain to get the key in and out but if you pull it towards you and level the base out then its much easier to get the key in and out.

I have an unused single stem stand from RadarRoys for sale, $50 to your door, I have gone with a different setup due to adding a GPS. The stem stand is black and is the same as WarBaby's. if anyone wants it let me know.

Beside the Heli-bars do you have a riser that your bars go into. If so what brand and do you have any clearance problems with the windshield.

I don't use spacers/risers, just the Helibars. At extreme fork lock, left or right, mine will touch the windscreen, just barely. It's close but works fine for me.

I ran a power wire up through the fairing and out under the center of the windscreen and have the detector mounted on top of the instrument panel with adhesive Velcro. I can take it off easily if needed, it's closer to my line of sight up there and it's out of the weather. There's plenty of room for one there with a Double Bubble or Sport Touring screen.

Now what do you do if you have the following to mount?

Laser Jammer
Radar Detector
GPS
XM Satallite
3 LCD Screens 2 are mounted into Left and Right Inners,
Other 1 Is to be mounted in center front for
Forward & Reverse Views via toggle.

Cams(NOT CamCorder) Forward, Reverse, and LEFT/RIGHT
Blind Spots. (For use with LCD Screens as Mirrors)
1 LCD with Toggle for FORWARD or REVERSE VIEWS.

how do you mount all these withou gaudge obstruction???

laser jammer is located under rear tail and front fairing

radar detector can be mounted to the wind screen

GPS and satellite radio is mounted to a single unit on stem stand "I can post a pic for you as soon as I get my satellite radio"

LCD screen I would mount on the tank with a custom fabricated fiberglass molded to tank

as for the "Cams" I would need to see them in order to tell you where to put them

and since I have GPS I really do not need to see my gauges except the fuel gauge which is off to the side and unobstructed. any more questions feel free to ask

Want to use the Cams as Mirrors, Forward/Reverse Views 1 LCD Screen, 2 LCD Screens 1 for Each View of Blind Spots, so their is no need to look left or right for prolong period of time were as your concetration is focused on forward and were your going. Rather not have it on tank for Forward/Reverse View LCD screen. Want to be able to view it without taking eyes off the road. Thought of above gauges. so as view would not be obstructed. then their is the XM, Radar and GPS to mount and do not want these perminant mount want them removable all 3 LCD's can be perminant as well as Jammer. I see your thinkg on GPS not needing to see gauges but I would still like to see mine. Call me OLD FASHION/ OLD SCHOOL. LOL!!!

here is the radar mount I spoke of, it allows you to take it on and off with ease, you can see more about it at www.radarbusters.com

Any that do it with out drilling into the screen as well as seeing through a screen that is Dark Smoke with a Mirror reflecting film on it?

drilling is needed and as for the what signals go through the smoke screen, I talked to Radar Roy himself, the retired officer and he said the only signal that it won't pick up is a LASAR, all others will still be seen, but you will have the LASAR jammer so that should help. Besides "its a freekin lasar beam Austin Powers"
