Rear Tire !!

did you like the last tire? I hate mixing tire brands (front/rear) if the last tire worked for you, get another.. if you change brands, I would just drop the change and do front and rear..

getting a cheap tire (shinko) might jump up and bite you in the next corner..

Michelin PP are excellant.

Michelin PP 2CT excellant also.

Dunlop Qualifiers are not as sweet but the price makes up for that.

Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's are my personal favorites but at 350 a set I save those for special times.

Michelin Power Race medium/softs and PRC fronts.

I run the 190/55 rear b/c of better turn in. But you may have to make some minor geometry changes b/c it can affect overall handling and suspension function. And I went up +2 on the rear gearing to compensate for the slight acceleration losses. Now it feels like stock gearing, but with a 55 profile.

and I do nothing but trackdays anyways.
Well said. I use the same on both the R1 and the Busa. I do use them on the street but no commuting at all on either.

I actually get better miles out of race tires over street for the type of riding I do. Most street rears, PP, M1 I can shred in 1000 miles or less. I can get right at the same or better out of a medium 190/55 Power Race.

Others have said and I will repeat...match the tire with the type of riding you do.

Michelin 2CTs have always worked well for me.

I'm going in for a replacement of the stock tire on my '08 shortly, and have chosen the 2CT because it has a harder center strip which allows for more commutes without wearing the tire out before I can get to the weekend (and summer night-time) twisties.

There are a few applications which should be considered when you're choosing, however.  The stickier the tire, the shorter life it will live...better for casual track-day dudes...sometimes costlier.

I do the gamut of riding:  long road trips, commuting, and tons (TONS) of twisties.  For me, and for others who ride like I do, I can solidly recommend the Michelin 2CT.

Let us know what you choose...

+1 ONLY HAVE ABOUT 80 MILES ON MINE, I ran HPX Mich, before the 2CT

You need to give more info on the type of riding you do and then you are going to get 100 different answers. I have over 100,000 miles on busa's and Q's have been the best for me.

I don't ride my Busa hard and got 7,000 miles out of the OE tire with probably 1,500 miles left on it when I replaced both tires with Continental RoadAttacks. These tires turn in so much more quickly than the stockers that I almost climbed a curb on a right turn while riding home from having them installed. They wear well - I'm at 12,000 total miles - 5,000 on the tires - and the front still looks new while the rear is getting worn a little in the center.

My son put RoadAttacks on his R6 and claims they grip better than the Dunlop 208s he had before - we can't imagine how the SportAttacks could be better. Several of our riding friends have since installed them on different sportbikes and all like them a lot. And they are reasonably priced!

I've read a lot of good comments on the Dunlop Qualifiers, so I may go that route once my stockers are spent.
I had a set of Qualifiers on the Busa once.  I took them off at about 1/2 tread because I didn't like them.  The stockers were better in my opinion.
What didn't you like about the qualifiers?

I'm absolutely in love with Qualifiers. Only street tires I've ever witnessed the passenger dragging their knee on. Both riders on our race team use them for their street bikes and are impressed with their performance. Both use their street bikes on Qualifiers while instructing. My own personal experience with Qualifiers, I can't find a single thing to criticize? But I did take a set of PP's off my GSXR1K after two weeks and one track day. Donated them to a friend and have no desire to go through that experience again.

Until someone shows me a street tire that performs better, I'm sticking to my Q's!

I love my Qualifiers !! But ask anyone that has used Perelli Corsa III's, They won't use anything else. I want to try them, and the PP2ct's

Must not have been to bad/dangerous if you let a friend ride on them

What was the problem with them

I'm at about the end of lifespan with my Q's, and I will either go with the same or try some PPs. I have had the Q's step out a little when cold a couple times, but nothing too alarming. They do wear well.

+1 On the PP2CT....I've been running them for a while & have no complaints....

What about mixing? say a storm front with a Azaro back?

I bought a like new Azaro for the rear(good deal) but can't find a front anywhere in the Busa's size.. Can I run a Storm and what if any effects will there be?

as busawhipped, avon storms for me,suits my style of riding holds well wet or dry, good feed back and mileage.they also seem to wear pretty evenly i used to change the bridgestones cause they went out of shape whilst there was still plenty of tread left.

I like Pirelli Diablo Corsa III for the same reasons...

BT56 over Qualifiers

...you must be joking. I admit, I only got the Qualifiers because a dealer was running a $249 f&r special installed but I heard great things about them and they've lived up to it.

IMO, through my own research and the feedback I have received it's okay to mix tires as long as they are similar in performance (extreme ex: don't put a touring tire on front with a racing slick on the rear) and you don't do extreme cornering.

Is it ideal/optimal? No. But the wheels run independent and are independently controlled by you...each has independent suspension, brakes, rear is driven and front is free rolling.

I did it once and had zero problems.
