Sunday June 3rd, 2007 Officer Down NJ will be holding our 4th Annual Motorcycle Run. The starting place is Burlington County College, State Highway 38, Mount Laurel NJ 08054 and will end about 35 miles away at Rosedale Park, Pennington NJ. at Rosedale Park there will be food and a live band which is included with your $15.00 registration fee. You can register at www.officerdownnj.org just click on the Officer Down store and you can register with paypal.

They teach you in the Police Academy that the first rule of police work is to come home alive at the end of your shift. As Police Officers we understand that the job we do is often dangerous and all too often deadly. Every day Police Officers are permanently injured and in some instances killed. We accept this risk with the knowledge that we choose to do the job we do, and the consequences that come with this decision. It’s not only what we do; it is who we are.Unfortunately, our loved ones suffer these consequences along with us. They attend our funerals, sit at our bedside, and share our pain. It is only through the love and support of our families and brother/sister officers that we endure these difficult times. Sometimes the support of our family and friends is not enough. Sometimes the need is greater than expected. That is why; Officer Down™ Inc. was created. 'Officer Down’ was formed in May of 2003 in response to the overwhelming need for some entity to provide the financial, and emotional support needed by these Officers and their families.
Officer Down™, Inc. is a Not-For-Profit organization, registered with the State of New Jersey and the IRS. ‘Officer Down’ provides monetary support for permanently disabled/ deceased Officers and their families and consists of active, retired, and disabled Law Enforcement Officers from within New Jersey.
Since our founding, ‘Officer Down’, has provided more than $90,000.00 in monetary assistance to more than twenty-one deceased or permanently disabled Law Enforcement Officers throughout New Jersey; From Trooper Scales of the New Jersey State Police who died in the line of duty, to Patrolman William Ford of the East Windsor Police Department who tragically lost his left leg in a motorcycle accident. Detective Kevin McManimon and Sergeant Fran Schumacher of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office both of whom lost a valiant fight to cancer, Patrolman Gregg Anderson of the Deptford Township Department to Detective Edward Sullivan of the Princeton Borough Police and Officer Thomas McMeekin of the Atlantic City Police Department who died in the line of duty.
In 2006 we assisted five deceased and permanently disabled Law Enforcement Officers and their families. From Trenton Police Officer William Grey, who was permanently injured as a result of an on-duty vehicle accident responding to assist a fellow officer, Officer Lisa Alvarez of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, whose untimely demise leaves behind a husband and two young boys, to Officer Roy Wells of Maple Shade Police Department who is currently struggling against ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Officer Roy Hernish of the West Windsor Police Department who was permanently injured in the line of duty and finally, Lieutenant Keith Hillman who succumbed to cancer leaving behind a widow and three children.
This year Officer Down will be assisting Detective Michael ‘Mikey O’ OLoughlin of the Bergen County Prosecutors Office who succumbed to cancer leaving behind a loving wife and two children, Patrolman Scott Stanton of the Ewing Township Police Department who was permanently injured in the line of duty and Officer Tyron Franklin of the Paterson Police Department who died in the line of duty protecting the lives of several citizens in Paterson.
These Officers all share one thing in common; they leave behind a family that misses them or how they were before their injury. Just as we help our partners in need, we need also help their loved ones in this, their time of need. We cannot help them alone. We need your help. Your donations help pay for medical bills, help support the family they leave behind, and assist our disabled brother and sister officers so they too can continue their lives. No amount of money can bring a loved one back, or repair the permanent injuries, but it may help ease their burden.
In closing I ask you to lend that helping hand that these brave men and woman deserve and more importantly that their families deserve.
