Russia and Ukraine

i'm watching RT NOW (Russia Today news channel) getting all the Putin propaganda

A British news reporter on the RT Front desk reporting from Moscow ... weird
I've watched some of that footage as well...

I think Putin is hoping Ukraine will surrender without causing to much destruction....

Lots of western saber rattling vowing repercussions to this invasion....I really don't know what the west can do at this point other than process the hundreds of thousands of refugees...

maybe Canada can help out with refugees , as you have a big back yard :D

While this seems like a sudden thing we see it has been in the works for a long time. What's happening now is just another battle in an 8-year old war the media forgot about. This is why Ukraine has been begging to be admitted into NATO and of course why we haven't admitted them. The problem with automatically tripped defense packs is it draws the US into things we may or may not have any serious interests in.

Putin won't stop now. There is no reason for him to draw down now that he has crossed the line. Also, this is the perfect storm for Russia. The US is in internal turmoil, COVID disrupting most countries, even Russia in the Presidency of the UN! Unless we have some secret weapons for Ukraine I'm not sure what can be done. Civilized peoples continue to believe in the basic civility of man when history repeatedly tells us that some people don't care about rules or other people when they conflict with their desires. The only way to stop Putin is to shoot back, and I don't think anyone is ready for WW3.

Hopefully, Ukraine has a modern decentralized command and control structure that is mobile and can't be targeted easily with bombers. Otherwise, Russia will cut the head off the Ukrainian forces quickly. Once it's building to building fighting it's going to basically make Ukraine look like Bosnia.

This is a pretty clear signal to 2nd world nations: Get a nuke as fast as you can and don't let anyone talk you out of it.

The entire world is kissing Xi butt....your former president was pretty cozy with Xi as well...

The children of your former president aren't exactly all clean and innocent either...

Obviously nothing has been substantiated or there would be investigations going on and if you think the FBI are all corrupt then I suppose there is nothing more to be said on the subject.
Hey Bee….

I’m curious as to what happened to that really nice guy, the one who use to send me PM’s whenever I got involved in a little squabble here on the board. The guy who use to try and maintain peace and save the forum.

You seem to have gone through a major transformation, now actively squabbling on each and every political thread?

What happened to you, you are all over the place with these kind of posts?

Great job Unca Joe.. Lets see more sanctions? Coupled with a stern talking to?

Youll notice how handy Crimea came into use as a pathway to the river used to export most of Ukraines goods. Thanks Unca Obammy. Nobody could see this coming.

About the civility of mankind, it is unfortunate that those who possess the greatest degree of incivility in these situations always triumphs.

Someone else’s quote: “Putin is handling the nuclear button like a key chain attached to his car keys.”

I think this will be over pretty fast. As determined as they may be, at some point Ukrainians will realize that they do not stand a chance against the Russian military.

What the world needs to learn from all this, is in the challenge between autocracy and democracy, the latter will only stand a chance of winning if we put our political and racial differences aside.

You can be guaranteed Taiwan is next....China has wanted to get in there for years.
I love how Trudeau is getting way over his head saying he will supply troops to fight Russia? Like is he actually brain dead? U.S said repeatedly they WILL NOT send American troops to Ukraine. Our pathetic military would get steam rolled in a hour without the help of our border ally.... Ukraine’s army is 4x the size then Canada’s and way more military equipped with 1/4 the budget compared to Canada. Ukraine would steam roll Canada 1 on 1 but here we have big mouth Trudeau sticking his nose into things way above his head.

As with every difficult topic there is going to be difference of opinions. Some members already have their minds made up on causal factors and some are still learning some history, politics and how things work. I will not get into my opinions on Russia or why things are occurring but I will step in here and make sure that we all stay focused on one fact.

People are being affected, lives are being changed and people's futures are impacted. Not just in the Ukraine but also in our own country. We have folks that have already been at the edge, living week to week and now with gas prices and inflation things are getting even harder.

So while we might spend a lot of time talking about Biden and Putin we can't lose sight of the people that live in the Ukraine that are victims to the violence as well as our own countrymen that are losing hope day by day.

Cap

Honestly, this sort of personal question should be via PM however that being said, I see no difference in my posts nor do I see myself "squabbling" on each and every political thread....

I am actively avoiding such threads but as you may or may not have noticed, the political ideology has flowed freely into each and every thread to the point it is hard to differentiate between what is political and non-political....

And to further break that down, much of what is posted is content which needs to be commented on or it will take over our forum and collapse it..

So in an essence, I am still fighting to save this forum...we have lost a lot of good people over all this political rhetoric.

Sadly, this is the leader the majority of Canadians have decided they want to lead us....his ignorance is displayed each time he opens his mouth.

Although our military is small, it has historically punched well above it's weight....during my time, I know of many instances where our troops have been specifically asked for to conduct missions as diverse as training to covert ops.

In previous conflicts of which Canada was involved, our military was sought after by allies and feared by our enemies.

That being said, the lackluster support of both the government and general populace to bolster our military is staggering...I suppose that is what happens when your borders are not under threat.

Some of our troops are very well trained but what support do they have backing them ? 50 year old f-18’s? And 150 tanks? Compared to Ukraine 2100 tanks.

A lot of people forget Ukraine held the worlds third largest supply of nuclear war heads after the Soviet Union collapsed but agreed to dispose of them.

We would never be engaging in open conflict with such a superior force.....we would be one of many smaller units combined...the same as we were in all conflicts we participated in....
