You know what man it's really funny you said this. My entire family when I was growing up was anti japanese ANYTHING. When I was about 9 I saw my first sportbike up close in person and fell in love and wanted one so bad even back then. My dad was a total 100% harley rider all the way. When I said something about how cool the sportbike was he got a major attitude and told me they were plastic crap and how they always broke down and blah blah blah. Well when you are a young kid you believe what your parents tell you. So as I grew up I always had a desire for one still but because I didn't wanna dissapoint my dad I got into harleys. Well when I hit about 20 I began to question things. You know I really came to the realization that harleys are pointless. You pay for nothing but a name on that bike and THATS what everyone is buying is a name and an image. You literally spend twice as much money as you should for a bike that has like 60 hp, tops out at like 110mph if it's lucky, and you really have to sink about 5 more grand into to look good. So why does everyone buy them? Back in the old days harleys were nothing but trouble and broke down all the time but people still bought them. I have come to realize that the one thing harleys do have is a loyal customer base. Most of the poeple that ride sportbikes buy what performs. If another bike outperforms one another and is priced the same they will buy it. They don't care what the name is they just wanna get the best bang for their buck. On the other hand harley riders only wanna buy harleys no matter WHAT! If another bike runs better they don't care they want a harley. If another bike has styling that looks better they don't care they want a harley. Anyways I am not knocking harleys here. If that bike really makes someone happy then by all means they should buy it. What I am saying is they should not get an attitude or try to force their opinion on someone else who likes a different bike even if all be it it's a japanese bike. My dad said they were plastic crap and broke down all the time and to me first hand experience now thats a load of crap. I know a TON of sportbike riders that ride their bikes 10 times harder than a harley gets ridden any given day and all they ever have to do to them is their maintenance and they run forever. Your dad and family should just be glad that you took up the interest of riding with them and you all go out and ride together. The point of motorcycling is to be an awesome hobbie and enjoy yourself while you ride, not to be prejudice to someone that has a different type of bike with you. I have rode in a pack of harleys before. My dad has one and all his buddies do to. Now that we have been out and I showed them what the busa can do every single one of them respects that bike now. Your dad may end up coming around to. The point is that you all go out and have fun together and you can do that on any bike.
