side to side shifting

(tinbender0 @ Sep. 10 2007,22:35) I hear about people using the term "counter-steering" all the time .....But really, we all do it naturally or we wouln't be riding very long..unless it was in a straight line..lol
I agree but what I think people are talking about is that people push the bars intiating the turn instead of pulling on them... I have always thought it was a completely natural response...

I read about counter-steering before I ever pushed a handlebar- learned thinking consciously about it. Really helped in cornering- just programmed in my head that if I was running wide just push the bar more and it will lean more!

I hate to think how many people have run off the edge of a curve with much more lean and grip still available to them...

Just freaked out...

(kennym4 @ Sep. 10 2007,02:37) To me my bike feels like it wants to stand up straight on me ? (come out of the lean) I never had this problem on smaller bikes ?
A flat spotted rear will cause the bike to stand up during cornering. Check your rear tire to see that it's still got a nice round profile.

cheers

Yeah, it never did that before, and I do have a BIG flat spot on my rear !!!

I have always pushed on the bars....Or push and pull but not the same one at the same time

That's a good video and pretty funny. All the snow all over, don't know where you are and running 70 in a 25

It's been so long since I've been on a sportbike, that without thinking about it, I've been sitting in the saddle. Saw Joe (Apex) leaning off a little on a ride and it triggered memories. I've started practicing again butt slide again...

I'm going to need to take her out in a few...

) The deal is, I'm ok when I ride solo- but I can't keep up with the folks I ride with, and that's been multiple groups.  Out on the highways I'm fine, and with open hwy turns- but once we get onto back roads, you may as well tie a boat anchor to my @$$.

It sucks and I'm trying to improve the situation- if I don't learn, I have to wait till the others pull over 5 miles up the road to let me catch up.  And I know it's me, b/c it happens with no matter who I'm riding with.

I went out again tonight to practice some more, but I don't feel the bike leaning over any further.  I'm usually not this thick so I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.  I guess it just takes time.
I wanna ride this sunday if your game... We can hit the twisties together if you want...  Maybe lcb and kenny4m and busasweety(s) if they are all up for it... Maybe we could head up to JET A's neck of the woods.
E.
I'm down if we start early ? Not sure about evening, yet. I would like to ride with you all again !!!

(BUSAFETT @ Sep. 10 2007,20:35) It does help, and I actually think I know what I'm doing wrong..  toward the end of tonight's ride, I only then thought to lean my face forward like you are saying-  I think maybe even tho I'm leaning left or right now for the turn, I wasn't moving far enough forward w/my upper body like you are saying.  I did it on one of the last turns before getting to the house and said to myself "is THAT what I'm missing???"  It hit me then that every pic I've seen of AMA riders shows them with their face planted almost into that windscreen, OR the mirror like you're saying- will continue my training tomorrow..  Thanks all for the support, and hope I don't sound like tim-MAY the handi-rider!!!

If you can ride with someone who will follow you with a camcorder, it will help you tremenously. I felt like I was hanging way off the seat with my head near the mirror. But the video showed quite a different story.

Great...now i'll be thinking about this next time i take a corner at speed, probably been doing it and not even realizing it.....can someone lend me there ride to practice this,i dont want to scratch mine

I'll give ya HANG! My inner calf is pressed tight against the bike whilst both cheeks are catching a cool breeze on the other side. Yeah it looks goofy, but it works for me.

Plan next year and take your tax refund and do the California superbike school at VIR
Awesome track and you will never regret what you learn.!!!

and you'll get rid of those darn chicken strips on the Busa!!
