Something to consider

As a two year member of the .Org, I think of this place as a brotherhood (and sisterhood), a hangout, and a support group. I must say I really enjoy our cyber conversations, perhaps too much, but that's another matter. This discussion entered an area, as we've touched on, that is perhaps too touchy. Our views of morals, and how our faith or lack thereof may effect how we conduct ourselves, vary greatly. Personal conduct is of course huge to all of us, so important that arguing different opinions can lead to driving a wedge between two people that could otherwise be great friends. I, for one, don't want to go there. I'm convinced that most of the core members here are awesome people; how they arrive at that isn't the point.

Long live the .Org

(WWJD @ Jun. 01 2007,06:44) ... you can't REASON with a 5 year old ...
Actually, since my Children were old enough to carry on a conversation I have always reasoned with them. However, reasoning with them never meant that they escaped the consequences of their actions. The Bible is pretty explicit on the best way to raise children:

Pro 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. (which implies that if you don't beat a child, he shall die).

Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

So when they did something wrong, after I calmed down, we'd have a little chat about it, make sure they understood what they did wrong, and then they got their come-uppance.

Now I've had one person accuse me of beating and torturing my children, but I have two straight-A students who are accomplished musicians, love each other, and love everyone they meet. They are generally regarded as being among the best-behaved children around and they don't resent the few times that their parents have had to discipline them. But the real answer to accomplishing this is when you need to discipline a child, do it in love:

Pro 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him quickly.
+1

I have three good kids that I get compliments on all the time.

They don't understand why the hatred in schools, they don't understand why people would want to do drugs.

They are all very caring about people, animals, love family time together and they were all brought up in the ways of the Lord.

Most families I know where the family is based on good Christian principals have very happy and well rounded children.

For me, I know what I am doing is working well for my family. And I cant argue with results

I did a little cleaning up in this thread.

Even though it was mine, I would have done the same thing if it was anyone elses thread. the continued jokes went too far in my opinion.

I was going to let a few of them stand even though I was personally offended by them, but almost two pages just to thread hi jack was enough

If someone wants to post those jokes in a separate thread go for it, I will let one of the other admins monitor and let them decide if it crosses the line for this board. but they didnt belong in this thread

Thanks for cleaning the thread up, TF.

I personally found those jokes, which ridiculed and demeaned Christians to be inappropriate and offensive, particularly as a response to this thread. I wonder how many atheists, agnostics, buddhists, or members of other religions would appreciate their own threads being hijacked to ridicule their religion?

I'm sure I would be rediculed more often if more people understood agnosticism.....

The pussification of the American male has caused alot of problems.
1. No allowed by pigmees in the UN to fight a war to win (Biggest example)
2. Kids discouraged from duking it out. We teach kids...it's bad to fight, so when they actually snap, they blow 32 people away.
3. Can't stand up for anything without being made to feel guilty.
4. When you do absolutely stand your ground, you're shunned as "inflexible"...?
5. Sexual repression causes a cornicopia of shady practices.
We teach kids...it's bad to fight, so when they actually snap, they blow 32 people away.

Your mission:
Stand up for yourselves every now and again and be a bobo!
Teach you kids to fight fair with their fists. Every now and again they may need to stand their ground...you know...like men have been doing since the BEGINNING OF TIME!
Just so they don't end up shivering little
sketchballs in the corner masturbating with a glock.

and now the hardest part of your mission...

don't feel guilty about any of it!

here here, luvanicebum! Well put. more of that obvious common sense reality that people just don't want to face publically.

Well, to quote my earlier post...........

***Hey Red05, I understand the point you are making, which is an excellent observation. The problem with religion discussion is MOST christians believe their particular faith is the correct one. The others are misguided flocks. Discussing religion & politics usually go nowhere and doesn't really achieve much!***

I don't see where I am bashing anything, just making an observation.

To copy Thrasher................

***If people do not believe in Christianity and it bothers them that much, maybe they should move somewhere where they will feel more comfortable. But don’t try to change the United States to fit your beliefs.***

That is the exact point I was trying to make in my original statement. I was raised Babtist and still have a firm belief in my faith. I also realize that not everyone shares my belief. Some people assume things when they don't really know a person at all. If people have a faith other than Christianity, why should they leave the United States? Should the 5.9 million Jews in the U.S. leave just because they have a different belief? No. Should the Muslims in the U.S leave too? No. I was agreeing with Red, who was just stating that the schools should not teach religion, any specific religion, leave that to the parents and churches, whichever church the family choses, not the government. I really don't like discussing politics or religion because everyone is firm in their particular belief and nothing will change their mind. Really now, no internet statement is going to make someone flip on their political or religious beliefs. Not me or you.

(yamahor @ May 31 2007,21:18) As for the Therapy and Rehab stuff... I firmly believe if it wasn't for the grace of God, I'd be BONKERS right now. No, I'm not the greatest Christian, and yes, I do screw up sometimes, but I've noticed there are direct reprocussions when I mess up in my religion...
Amen my man, I really don't know where I'd be right now were it not for the peace and joy of salvation. Probably somewhere 150lbs lighter with a dry cough LOL.

I've learned no I won't be perfect like Jesus, but I can be Holy (Complete-Mind/Body/Spirit) for He commanded it. I've also learned that while I am forgiven when I fall short (when I repent) there may still be consequences.

Good input, be encouraged and know we're all a work in progress, the question is how much are we being yielded to that work?

God bless
Good to know there's more Christians out there. It is an encouragement, as I'm going through some points in my life with temptations right now.
Dude!! lol..

Just because a peson is a Christian does not in anyway make it so temptations go away.

I am 45 and deal with temptations on a daily basis, they get mostly easier to deal with as you get older. But there will ALLWAYS be temptations to do things you feel is wrong.

hang tough with whatever you are going through. it will get better.. then worse.. then better.. its a rollercoaster
Hey Thrasher, it would be so easy if there were no temptations, wouldn't it?

Yes it would be, however without temptation there cannot be spiritual growth

Two edged sword, I hate temptation, but understand the need for it

Actually, that's similar to the Taoist principle, and it is a view that is not supported by the Bible.

Spiritual growth comes not from temptation, but rather from exercising our faith, studying the Word of God, and prayer.

James 1:13-15 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: (14) But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. (15) Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
