Okay, here's the story. No big deal, really.
First of all, that's the clean part of the garage. Ask Nelson and Chris; we had to really dig to get the back door open to vent it out Sunday when we were synching throttle bodies. Don't let yourself be deceived!

Anyway, last Saturday, the wiff and I were in the neighborhood of our local stealership where we have a really good relationship with a couple of the people working there. There were at the bike show. Bummer.
But that bike was sitting there saying, "Lookit me!". We looked. Niiiiiice, 2006 GSXR1000. HEY! THAT BIKE IS USED!!!
No way.
Yeah, WAY!
How many miles?
About 500.
No shitt!
Yup. Shitt!
What's the price on that bad boy?
$9799.
Whoa, that's pretty good. Dang. We gotta see about that. I think you're about ready for that bike, hon.
Y'see, Ms. Wag has been riding a GS500F for about a year now and she's gotten really good at it. I push her. I tell her I'm pushing her but that if she says no, there'll be another one just like it in the future sometime down the road. It's no disappointment if you say no, you'd rather play it safe and wait. Of course, I was lyin'!!!
This conversation goes on for the entire weekend. I actually called CharlesBusa and left him a message saying he should go look at it. I was hoping he would buy it and take the decision off our hands entirely! No dice! He's not gonna do it.
While we were at the stealership on Saturday, we asked if we could test drive it. The finance guy said, "Nope." Bummer.
I bet our usual gal would've let us ride it. Monday rolls around and we call and ask. She says, "Of course you can test ride it! Silly!"
So, tonight, after work we headed over there. Me on my Busa and the wiff on her GS500F. Little did we know she was riding it for the last time. Well, I was about 95% sure it was her last time. I had a lot more confidence in her ability than she did.
She rode it first. Came back trembling with excitement! She was in lust, to be sure.
I wiped down the seat and test drove it next. Very nice. Not the same hard torquing action down in the low gears but it certainly has a punch you can't deny. It's such a small bike, it's like driving a bicycle with a pair of rockets strapped to the sides. Squirrely. Nice and squirrely. Took it around an S-turn with some gusto and it rode it very nicely! I was impressed. It SEEMS like it's going a lot faster than it is but I think I'm just used to the Busa. 60 mph on the Gixxer feels like 90 mph on the Busa. Rolled back off the throttle on this on at just over 90 mph. It's a little tight to ride for me because of my height. If I were going to ride it for any great distance, I would have to get the pegs lowered.
What's the story? Some guy bought a Ducati about four months ago and put about four grand into mods before even taking delivery. Three months later, he brought it back and traded it for the Gixxer you see in that picture. ONE MONTH later, he brought the Gixxer in and sold it to the stealership outright. Evidently, he had been job-transferred to Boston and felt he wouldn't be able to ride it enough. He even rolled in with a nail in the rear tire so we even got a brand new tire in the deal.
Our lucky day! Several people had looked at the bike while we were dickin' around talking about it. All of those guys were asking if it had been in an accident. Morons, all of 'em. How the hell could they even get parts for an '06 that fast and put it back in the showroom? I didn't think so anyway and now they've all lost out!
I think I covered everything. We rode back home about 30 miles, new bike under Ms. Wag's azz. We got off the freeway about a mile from our house and she said those three little words that every man loves to hear from his wife: "Let's keep riding!" Or maybe it was those OTHER three words: "I want more!" We spent another hour out riding in the freezing cold and only got home just before 11:00. Now it's midnight and I just can't stop looking at the beauty of this bike. I'm lovin' it.
Of course, the only reason I pushed for it is so *I* can ride it!
No, not really. Yeah, really. NO, No, no! You just wanted the wiff to have a shot at a great bike she's able to ride! Yeah, that's the ticket! Um . . . .
I think it was our lucky day! It's gonna be a good summer next year!
I wanna say one last thing, too. At the stealership where we bought that bike, there are two people who really treat their customers right. If you're ever in Orange County, stop in at the Newport Beach Hahm Motorsports and ask for Debbie if you want to buy a new bike or ask for Bruce in parts. Good peoples. Dustin in service is pretty good too, once you get to know him. The others are all new and I don't know them very well. But this is one dealership which I feel I can trust and it's because of these people.
I don't much care for the Anaheim location (a guy tried to sell me contact cleaner to clean my Z-ring chain of all things) but this location in Newport Beach is truly wonderful.
