Sport Rider magazine editor/columnist went down...

???

Apparently you didn't read the article. Nobody going to protect anyone against this:

apparently you didnt comprhend my post

if he had a police escort, most likely the car would not have made the uturn because he would have seen the lights

if the road was closed there would be no one there to make a uturn

now, what part of that dont you understand

UPDATE!

This is what I have learned from my son who is friends with Andrew!

Andrew and his co-writer with SR magizine (Kent Kunitsugu) was riding together with Kent in the lead. They were following a car with a single occupant who it appears met one of his buddies going the opposite direction. The driver waved out the window at his passing friend and imediately pulled to the shoulder of the road and whipped a u-turn. Kent was able to dodge the vehicle but Andrew was hit broadside and ran over by the car. The driver of the vehicle turned out to be a 15 year old male. Yes 15, it's not a typo error.

Andrew is busted up pretty badly. He has broken bones in his face as well as back and pelvis damage. He has lots of swelling in his back. The doctors say they expect/hope he gets the feeling back in his legs with time.

Andrew has a favorite Canadian coffee he dearly loves (Caffeine addict). The kid is having one of his Canadian friends send Andrew a gift package which includes his favorite Canadian brand of coffee.

Andrew is a Canadian for those of you who may not know.

If I get any further info I'll pass it on.

Here's to a peaceful and full recovery to one of the best people within the motorcycle industry, not to mention one hell of a rider - ANDREW TREVITT

They let 15 y.o. kids drive in California ?

Did he have a permit and licensed driver with him ? :rulez:

Or was he " borrowing" someone's car I wonder ?

Horrible thing to read about :flamethrowing: I hope Andrew gets his feeling back. :please:

The fantasy part.... a police "escort" on Angeles Crest....

you can get a police escort for anything bro,get the proper permits and the sky is the limit

not sure you would get a permit to "speed" around on a public HW but thats a whole other issue.sure you would need paramedics and a whole other production that would cost big bucks

but $$ can get you anything in this country, its a shame this guys company didnt think it was worth it for him

IMO its not the smartest thing to be out on public roads "testing" tires, its dangerous enough just rideing

Best wishes and prayers for andrew. I've got a friend in a full body brace right now over the same thing! I think its kind of ironic that people who dont ride always talk about how careless us sportbike riders are...yet the statistics show(at least in the state of Tennessee) that 86% of motorcycle collisions are caused by the person driving the car...not us! Riders are killed and/or hospitalized every day because of drivers carelessness...not riders. When will they learn?

He was testing tires? I thought he was just out riding with a friend???

Hmmm...I've been "testing" my tires for the last 10 days. They came brand new with the Hayabusa. I've never used those tires before. Guess I should've contacted the local government to arrange for escort before taking to the streets. Boy is this gonna make getting new tires an even bigger PITA. :( Funny thing...I haven't had to break the speed limit during my "testing" of the new tires. Guess I'm doin' it wrong... ???

you arent testing tires for the sake of a review for a magazine, maybe you should read the entire thread and not just selectively read posts

I don't understand why some people seem to be making assumptions about Andrew speeding or riding in any unsafe manner. The article said a car made an illegal u-turn in front of him. It did not mention Andrew doing anything wrong ???

Get well soon :beerchug:

Bro, I think your north of La La Land. Where is the mention of "speeding" around except in your posts.

FYI: I didn't post in this thread until I'd read every post in this thread.

Congratulations. You're the first negative experience that I've encountered on Hayabusa.org.

Just to be crystal clear, my original point was that it seems to me that it's reasonable to "test" a street tire on the street at legal speed limits. Especially considering that viratually all new bikes are sold with new street tires and those bikes are, more often than not, ridden off the lot onto public streets.

If you choose to take issue with my opinion, I'll advise you ahead of time that you would be well served to behave in a more diplomatic manner to avoid negative consequences. Rule of thumb, don't say anything here that you wouldn't say to someone in person. Just because we can't see each other doesn't mean we owe each other any less respect.

you totally miss the point,

it you do anything and I mean ANYTHING, that is work related, the company you work for has a legal obligation to protect the employee and the publics health and welfare, there is a thing called O.S.H.A... look it up and educate yourself.

a simple permit for 1 hr to close a road (weather you think its possible or not) would have prevented this.

it really is that simple
